RE: A week of learning10 Apr 2025 10:39
I feel your pain - when it comes to licking wounds here's my sob story! I sold a portion of my shares at 725 back in Feb when they rocketed, with a view to buying back in via an ISA. They then continued to rocket - I waited dutifully for a pull back but it looked like it was never coming and I was getting left behind, so bought back in right at the top of the market at 808.
After the Trump chaos I spoke to my uncle (formerly in finance, very sensible man) about buying the dip and was ready to use this year's ISA allowance to get back in under 600, bringing my average down to a much more respectable 700. He talked me out of it with fears of stagflation, then Trump u-turned on tariffs. I just hoyed 10K back in at today's bell, which has got my average down to 783, but if I'd waited half an hour it would have been in the 760s.
It's certainly been a period of learning but I'm not 100% sure what the lesson is!
