I work for the NHS and the private sector (and my other half is a psychiatrist).

Everyone is warned to only invest what you can afford to lose. If people ignore that, it's no-ones else's fault but their own.

Vaccination programmes and clinical trials are not the same thing. I was very clearly talking about the roll out of the vaccination programme - not the clinical studies.

Problem is, they still have to get UK government agreement. They're trying to put pressure on the government by making these announcements - but I think that might backfire.

That simply doesn't make sense. The trials have not been running for two years. What may happen in future, with respect to surveillance to trial participants, is irrelevant to what will happen to in the wider population when the vaccines are rolled out. Different systems and different processes.

That's simply not true. The trials haven't been running for 2 years.

Yep - same here. As I posted early, one of our pharmacy leads commented on CDC's concerns that the side-effects of the mRNA vaccines are so severe compared to normal that people will be put off getting the second dose.

As far as I am aware, mRNA vaccines haven't even been licensed for animal use in the UK/EU (although I may be wrong) - only in the USA.

Luckily, I have been able to get a 'flu jab through my employer - and I'll potentially be one of the first to get the Covid vaccine...

...so if I grow two heads I'll be sure to let everyone know!

In case anyone's interested, the NHS plans for vaccination are outlined in the HSJ:

Care home residents and staff, healthcare workers - from beginning of December;
Ages 80 plus - from mid-December;
Everyone aged 70-80 - from late December;
Everyone aged 65-70 - from early January;
All high and moderate risk under 65s - from early January;
Everyone aged 50-65 - from mid January; and
Everyone aged 18-50 - from late January; but with the bulk of this group vaccinated during March.

I expect the timetable to slip a little but overall we should see the bulk of those to be vaccinated (bearing in mind not everyone will be vaccinated) to be done by September next year.

Sorry - but that's wrong. Plans are already being put in place to start the vaccine programme in the UK in December. I think the timetable may slip a little but I'd expect the first priority groups to start getting jabbed mid- to late-December.

The good things about the Oxford/AZ vaccine, compared to the mRNA vaccines, is that it is relatively easy to manufacture, store and distribute.
