Major European stock indexes traded below the flatline in the premarket on Thursday, following the United States Federal Reserve's decision to increase interest rates by 25 basis points, as investors analyze the move and Fed Chair's Jerome Powell predictions about future hikes. The Bank of England is set to unveil its own monetary policy call today, while European Commission will release consumer confidence estimates in the afternoon.

The DAX went down 0.23% at 7:04 am CET, while the CAC 40 decreased by 0.44%. At the same time, London's FTSE 100 dropped by 0.37%, and Euro Stoxx 50 lost 0.39%.

The euro traded 0.50% above the dollar at 7:19 am CET to change hands for 1.09093, and the pound gained 0.47% against the American currency to sell at 1.23260.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. predicted the price of gold will reach $2,050 within the next 12 months as it remains a "haven" in uncertain circumstances. Commodities more broadly will rise by 28%, according to the bank's analysts.

Goldman does not forecast that the current banking crisis will spill over into the commodities market. Oil will be another commodity on the rise, with the demand in China increasing and reaching 16 million barrels per day, analysts predicted.

Analysts at Liberum reiterated their 'buy' rating and 500.0p target price on clothing retailer Superdry following a "phenomenal deal" that it believes realises "great value" for shareholders.

Liberum said Superdry's move to sell the rights of its intellectual property in the Asia Pacific region to a third party for a net cash consideration of £34.0m was "a very positive step" for the future of the business.

Following its exit of China in 2020, Liberum noted that there were no imminent plans for Superdry to invest in the territory but noted that through this deal, the company has delivered "significant shareholder value" for a territory that delivered just low single digit pre-tax profits in 2022.

"This deal highlights three key facts: (1) how low the current market cap is (this deal constitutes 38% of the current market cap), (2) strengthens the balance sheet significantly (moving into a net cash position), and (3) the belief that Superdry has global appeal and potential has been shown by a very well respected third party," said Liberum.

"This deal de-risks the balance sheet, protects the P&L and whilst a lot of work is yet to be done on its cost reduction programme, is a very positive step in the right direction. The shares should rise significantly today."

Gold up 1% after Fed opts for 25 bp hike

Prices of precious metals rose after the United States Federal Reserve raised the federal funds rate by 0.25 percentage points, in line with market expectations. However, the central bank's monetary policy statement this time did not say that "ongoing increases" in rates will be needed, seemingly boosting demand for gold, which bears no interest.

Gold increased by 0.82% to $1,956.04 per ounce at 2:12 pm ET. Silver gained 1.41% and reached $22.72 per ounce at the same time. Platinum advanced 1.28% to $956.37 per ounce at 2:13 pm ET. Palladium climbed up 2.98% to $1,435.75 per ounce concurrently.

Law 32 should, therefore, render the third-party challenge to the Concession Agreement inadmissible (as no final judgment has yet been given in that case), although the validity of Law 32 was challenged and has been under review by the Supreme Constitutional Court. The court finally issued judgment in the case on 14 January 2023, dismissing the various challenges and upholding the constitutionality of Law 32.

The Group's (Centamin)Egyptian lawyers have now filed an application to the Supreme Administrative Court to resume proceedings in the original appeal (this is a purely procedural step) and they will then make a further application to the Supreme Administrative Court, on behalf of PGM, asking the court to confirm that the original complainant had no capacity to bring the claim in the first place, as he was not a party to the Concession Agreement.  They will ask the court to reject the case in its entirety and treat it as never having been filed.  If that occurs, the earlier judgment at first instance would be cancelled and the appeal proceedings would be terminated.
