Because "some countries lack the laboratory resources and access to PCR kits to conduct testing at the required levels"
AVCT RNS 22nd July ;
"potentially provide a new gold standard for laboratory reference testing for the COVID-19 infection"
3/13
"a single technician to analyse up to 1,000 samples a day, the BAMS assay will provide a significant boost to centralised hospital testing capacity around the world."
I have seen some analysis on UK installed machines but this product isn't solely aimed at that market.

That said, it is now in the CONDOR programme, that will deliver a powerful independent clinical validation process, which will go a long way to supporting its roll out in Europe and further afield.
5/13
Now that it is officially a part of that programme, advanced talks on procurement can be conducted.
However, in time, perhaps its true worth lies further afield.
Testing capacity is one thing but cost and ease of use will also play a part.

The ability to reduce overall costs (technicians, equipment) is surely attractive, with the added bonus of freeing up equipment/personnel, that is being used for testing and putting, it/them back to their usual work, which is backing up.
Then there's these interesting bits.
7/13
AVCT RNS 9th June, Apedtrix's Dr. Jeffrey C. Silva ;
"the same BAMS assay for the spike protein can also be used for drug development efforts to screen compounds that block interaction with host cells through the ACE2 receptor to prevent virus infection."
8/13
"Expanding detection to other SARS-COV-2 antigens will enable configuration of a multiplexed BAMS assay to simultaneously monitor multiple viral proteins for added specificity in the case of future pandemics."
9/13
"The precision and accuracy of mass spectrometry detection using the BAMS assay platform will allow researchers to monitor molecular changes that may occur through natural evolution of the virus."
Meaning mutations, meaning different reasons to employ this test.
7/13
That the BAMS test isn't going to reach the dizzy heights expected of the LFT, doesn't mean its not going to have a significant impact and its now close to beginning that journey.
For all these reasons and more, I've never (so easily) written it off.

Finally, Dr Smith from 9th June RNS ;
The fact the Affimers are working well in the BAMS test "bodes well for all our COVID-19 antigen test development programmes."
22nd July update ;
"We are confident that the BAMS assay will perform very well and"
12/13
"potentially provide a new gold standard for laboratory reference testing for the COVID-19 infection."
AVCT 23rd June video ;
When commenting on the BAMS and LFT, Dr Smith said ;
"we are aiming for a high performing test with both. . ."
