"Well, I am a little late on the scene with these developments but what a spectacular u-turn from the Georgians. Now they want to meet the company to negotiate a compromise, which based on certain guarantees, they may continue ‘mining’. Well, if that is not a spectacular development, I am not sure how else you could describe it.
Only last week, sinister forces leaked the alleged arbitration result on a public bulletin board, followed up with a number of public statements from the Georgian side accusing FRR of deliberate misinformation about the Tribunal result. The Georgians pressurising FRR to release the whole 152 page document while FRR requesting a meeting with GG to draft a joint statement. Each party holding firm on its position. The tit-for-tat response was pretty overwhelming. So, a week later, we have a more reconciliatory tone from the GG. And thank God for that - there were not going to be many winners in this spat.
In the meantime, the clock is ticking down to the termination date of 27 July (if indeed this is legal and correct).
So despite all this huge political pressure on FRR, Zaza continued with his TV campaign saying that they have complied with the Arbitration recommendations and the Govt has no unilateral right to cancel B12. But something more significant has happened in recent days for this spectacular u-turn. And I assume someone like Pompeo has intervened or the political momentum has gathered pace in Washington against Ivanishvili. Because optically it does not look for the GG to treat its largest American Energy investor in this uncompromising way, especially when energy prices are so low and expected to remain depressed for some time.
Now it’s in the open that both parties want to reach a compromise, we hope a good and speedy deal can be concluded."
