How much do majors spend on exploration? Good question. Take a look at the BP published accounts not just for what they spend but also the level of write off.
Before you do think of a number, double it, double it again, now you might be in the right ball park. That is just 1 of the big boys.

SP pre spud, fair value, 6 - 10p, so if I pick 8p. Expectation is that we will as Bonum suggests se over swings. On that basis 12p pre spud is not unrealistic given the potential scale.
The risk is that we run with low expectation and are viewed as high risk small scale prospector and fail to reflect true value.
The hope is that the excitement and the potential produce a bit of groundswell in which case sentiment could see us anywhere, and ridiculously over valued.

I am a holder of 5 shares on that list.
BMN - but I have been in since it was a sub 2p share. Top sliced over 40p and have added back in chunks between 20 - 30 p.
BPC - I think most of us have this in common.
CLON - I dipped in and out and probably sat on a small loss after trading costs. I was out on the 3x spike a few weeks back.
MATD - I like this one. There is news coming. Timing of the news will be interesting. Questions on cash position and activity through a harsh Mongolian winter (maybe not as harsh by geography as some on the BB will have you believe)
UJO - has had some good news, I do not expect UJO to see full benefit of the discovery but worth a watch.

More luck than judgement I think.

It would be interesting to hear back from the people tipping MTFB, COPL, ALBA, MSMN, MTR, NTOG, OMI, TRP on what went wrong.

If I find myself at a loose end one evening I might do a bit of digging on the above shares. If they were fundamentally sound when tipped they might be worth a re-visit at the new lower prices...or they are dog eggs of the highest order.

to a non-holder the OO is of little concern as you are not in a place to partake.
To existing holders we had a choice, buy at or even below the OO price in the run up or subscribe to the OO.
Yes, we could have added a few more shares for the same cash outlay, however, buying shares already in the open market does nothing to help the business fund the additional £7m required for the well to go ahead next year. Next year is key.
Buyers at the OO are helping to secure the drill.

scenario 1.
buy in the open market at 1.90.
OO falls short.
II's do not pick up the shortfall.
No drill.
your shares at 1.90 will tank.

scenario 2.
you buy at the OO 2.00.
OO is over subscribed.
II's now have certainty that the drill is going ahead and move BPC to a different risk pool.
Farm in partners start to position themselves. Some may leap early and try to do a multi well deal, others may sit on the side and wait to see the outcome of the drill knowing that the gap between explorer and exploiter of the resource is significant in cost terms.
BPC will need finance. Oilers will pay a great deal more at that stage but for a known asset.
