The owner of British ​Airways and Iberia said in February its fuel and currency hedging was down about 9% in 2025 compared to a year before.

It said its policy includes hedging on a three-year rolling basis, with hedging of up to 75% of expected near-term requirements ‌near-term, and up ⁠to 80% for low-cost airlines.

The British budget airline said ​in January it had hedged 84% of its fuel needs for the first half of 2026, 62% for the second and 43% for the first half of 2027, at an average cost of $715, $688 and $671 per metric ton, respectively.

It has ​80% of the dollars it expects to need in the first half of the year, bought at $1.30 per British pound, 62% for the second half at $1.24 per pound and 40% for the first half of 2027 at $1.32 per pound.

Brent crude futures reversed early losses to trade 5% higher at $92 per barrel on Wednesday, after falling about 11% in the previous session. Traders continue to monitor the conflict with Iran, with uncertainty lingering over when it might end. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said yesterday it “will be our most intense day of strikes”. Major Middle Eastern producers have collectively reduced output by more than 6 million barrels per day as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively shut. Meanwhile, a brief wave of relief triggered by a Wall Street Journal report that the IEA had proposed the largest coordinated release of oil reserves in its history failed to sustain downward pressure on prices. The G7 said it supports an oil release in principle, but no concrete action has been announced yet. Later today, OPEC is scheduled to release its monthly assessment of the global crude market.

Brent Crude creeping back up if tomorrow it stays around this level would expect airline stocks to jump quite a bit .
