The FTSE 100 has surged in early trading after inflation fell by more than expected last month, boosting hopes for several interest rate cuts next year.
The UK’s flagship stock market leapt up as much as 1.4pc to briefly touch its highest level since May after the consumer prices index fell to 3.9pc in November, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The sharp fall from 4.6pc in October, which was driven by a decline in fuel prices, was steeper than the drop to 4.3pc predicted by economists.
