Giant squid, the chances of them going bankrupt is very slim. I’m not saying, they can’t go bankrupt, of course they can, however, under the current circumstances, there is very little chance.
There are many reasons why they won’t, I’ll give you three, to keep the post short and sweet. Reasons being, as I explained earlier, they have the best cinema sites, especially in the Uk. Other businesses rely on them. They are not a failing business, in the sense of business model, it was covid that brought about their demise. And thirdly, it is very important for the movie business, to have competition, who screens their films, if cine go under, AMC have the monopoly, which will be impossible to break and It’s very bad for the movie industry. Movie industry, is huge, governments use them to sell narratives, like justifying, wars and building narrative against hostile countries, like North Korea. Large multinationals use the movie industry, to advertise, lifestyle, fashion, cars etc.
What I’m trying to say, is there is more at play then meets the eye, I’ll be very surprised, if they go under. AMC will pick and choose, the films they want to screen. There can’t be just one company that does all the screening of movies, for example, if they don’t, like the republicans or democrats, they will refuse to screen a movie that is making their policy look bad. Ie. Wars, homelessness, poverty, housing, religion etc.
And for the peeps, that are going on about streaming or Netflix etc, they will never replace the movie theatres, the data is there, after covid, Netflix has gone down big time. Also movie theatre, is just as much about the experience, as much as it is about the film.
It’s late I’ve had a few whiskeys, but hopefully you will get the point. I could be wrong.
