RE: Return of Equity and Share Consolidation11 May 2022 18:23
Paul2566,
"If an investor held 1% of AV. stock before the share consolidation, they will still hold 1% of Av. stock after the share consolidation. " - this is not the case. Why?
Thanks to the earlier share buy back program over 245 Million shares are being cancelled on Friday, the 1% magically becomes 1.07%
Total number of shares currently in issue: 3,687,321,923
Shares held by company for cancellation: (245,225,489)
Total number of shares in issue to be consolidated: 3,442,096,434
An Investor holding 1 % of the company prior to cancellation holds 3,687,322 out of the 3,442,096,434
to my mind that is 1.071% of the company. These are the numbers that get reduced by a factor of 0.76 in this weekend's consolidation.
I know many posts on the chat are dismissive of buyback and consolidations that help directors meet targets, but I get more of the company for less outlay - so I can see a benefit to me too.
Now, the reported anticipated DPS of 31 p is based on £870 million / 3687321923 / .76
I might be wrong, but it looks to me that in actual fact the Dividend will be £870 million / 3442096434 / .76
(or 33.2p per share)
My hope is that the BOD will have room to exceed expectations when the next dividend is announced.
