I'm a postie of 30+ years service, I'm also high up in my office in seniority, I'm not disagreeing with your comments on senior men booking 4 hrs overtime, yet finishing both the overtime thats being offered to them, along with finishing their own duty, and all in their contracted hours for that day. It boils down to, being paid 12 hrs for only having to work an 8 hrs shift. New revisions are currently taking place in all offices nation wide, deliveries will be made more equal, work loads shared more Evenly, posties made to work their contracted hours, paid only for hours worked, saving royal mail millions of pounds in the coming years, the disgruntled posties are the older posties whom have been milking the system for years, now they are going to have to work their hours, and about time to.
I personally myself, cannot wait for the new signing in system, to replace the old current system, of a pen and sheet of paper.... EXAMPLE
Two postmen on a same shift pattern, on a town walk both supposed to start same time at 06.00 am, one postman starts bang on his scheduled start time of 06.00 hrs, and the other goes in 20 mins early, giving the company 20 mins of his own free time, just so that he can get an early start of throwing in his delivery, and getting out on delivery earlier, Royal mail bosses tend to turn a blind eye to the postman that's giving them 20 mins of his own free time, for one simple reason, that over a 1 week period, he's giving the company over the week of 6 days, 2hrs of his own personal free time, saving the company 2hrs in wages, the negative point I'm getting at, is that he's getting out of the office, 20 mins before his work colleague, who started on his scheduled time. Point I'm making is, with the missorts that had been missorted, missorts for the postman whom had started early, and had already gone out on his/her delivery, remain in the office till the next working day, hence a failure in quality of service. I see this all so often in our delivery office. I also believe, that with the new signing in system being introduced, it will make the jobs more even, with posties only being paid for actual hours being worked, no more of going home early, and being paid for sitting at home, finishing sometimes 2hrs earlier than their finishing times.
We in our office, have been delivering more letters since the summer of 2016, they were brought in as so called summer splits, however we are now doing them on a daily basis, but only if we have time, the splits were brought in to make posties work their contracted hours, and not brought in to work over your hours. So we deliver more letters, but only in your schedule contracted daily hours, you are not forced to work over your finishing times.
Good afternoon jbthistle, I have have just arrived home, from yet another busy shift at work, and believe you me, it was another busy shift. It's getting to be the norm now. Yesterday was my 1st post, that I myself had posted on here. I only posted on here, to agree with the thread that I had responded to, regarding the purchasing of shares from my pay, and I also if I could, would purchase more shares, than the £100 a month, which I'm currently allowed. A newcomer to the board I am not tho, over the past year, I have been reading threads regarding Royal Mail and it's shares, I have listened from a far, often having to bite my tongue in cheek, as well as often giggling to myself. Lots of garbage being spoken on numerous threads, from many a disgruntled postman, or postwoman, who don't like the sound of the word change, I will only post positive news on here as and when I see it fit to. For all you disgruntled postmen and post women get used to it, ( change is coming ) wether we like it or not, myself included, it's coming. We've had the good times over the years, where Royal mail bosses dangled the carrot in front of us, with a job and finish, postmen going into work, starting 30 mins before their time, running around whilst out on their delivery, taking no breaks, often finishing 3 to 4 hours early on some jobs, and being paid a full day's work. Well not anymore, New technology, new PDA's, being rolled out amongst the workforce, working more sufficiently, signing in, signing out, delivery rounds being made more equal, no more early finishing, being paid only, for the actual hours worked, office revisions nationwide, working on Sundays to compete with our competitors, parcel pick up collection from customers door step, which on my delivery is picking up rapidly, new top of the art parcel automisation machinery at mail centres, new hubs being built, close to all motorways, we have the infrastructure nationwide, and this is a business which I am very proud to work for, and in my own personal opinion will thrive over the years to come, hence the reason I bought thousands of shares privately, and still today I purchase the maximum amount of shares I am allowed out of my pay every month. The share price goes up and down daily, but with mine being invested for the longer term, I hopefully will reap the rewards in the future.
I am also a postie, and have been for 30+ yrs service, I too bought into the share scheme at work, also buying the maximum being allowed every month, along with purchasing thousands of royal mail shares privately. I tend do agree with yourself, that its not the job for us older posties, that's myself included, however my shares are a long term investment, I personally from working on the inside, can honestly see these shares thriving in future years, all offices are currently going through revisions, and the profits being saved are going to be massive, this pass fortnight at work, has been very busy, with track parcels going through the roof again, great for the business, not so great for us older posties
