It’s going down today
Saw this yesterday and thought I would open my account today and find the price had jumped up a bit. No such luck

BT pay more than the living wage to their brand new hires already. Living wage is £19,305 and BT are advertising jobs from £20,511
Also 40,000 employees did not vote to strike. A big chunk said no in the ballot and then when it came to the strike days another chunk said no which resulted in about half of the 40,000 that were originally balloted and the vast majority of them were Openreach workers.
I see that In a few news reports on firms that have strikes happening they don’t even mention the next BT strike days. I don’t think anyone cares about it as it has zero impact on anything. The Felixstowe strike and the Lawyers strike and the train strikes all stay in the news because they will have impact.
Be interesting to see what the Unions all do next year when inflation goes up again. Will they all be striking if the pay deals are less than 18%?? Will they strike themselves when their own pay doesn’t go up by the cost of living increase ??
Anyone know what is going on with the share price here? On my H&L account it has shown the same price every day since it was relisted.
I would expect the strike in contact centres to be a waste of time for the CWU as there are still lots of people working from home and the actual number of employees striking will probably just mean longer wait times. I would also imagine the engineers appointments will have been rearranged away from the strike days so 99% of BT customers won’t even notice.
I would worry that the disruption is more likely to make the senior management look to speed up AI and bots tech that will enable them to reduce employment. Especially if this becomes more regular (can’t see next years pay negs going much differently as they’ll start in 6m)
I’ve worked in several large companies and BT’s current pension and death in service benefit are by far the best. 10% contribution from BT, annual fees of just 0.22% and 10X salary if you die. Plus you can sacrifice your annual bonus straight into your pension to avoid tax and it is super simple to do. Compared to other (non final salary) work pensions it is brilliant.
‘improving a company for the good of all.’
Would be great to hear what the CWU have achieved at BT in the last 18m that ticks all of these boxes. Give us some balance to all of the chat about going against the Union.
I imagine it costs a lot of money to be a member of the CWU in BT and I am sure those members demand that they get their monies worth so there must be some good stuff they’ve achieved.
I transferred mine into HL from HSBC without converting to certificates. The shares are sat waiting to be traded when the day finally arrives!!
Not being funny Grs24 but the engineers are mainly frontline workers who deal face to face with the public in their day job so yes I do think they care. Especially when they go back to work and have to visit the people who will have been personally impacted by cancellations and delays due to the strike. They are the only BT employees who will have to deal with the public face to face.
Phillip Jansen has already stated that there isn’t any more money coming so if the CWU are true to their word it looks likely they’ll strike.
Dave I reckon you’ll end up with some engineers striking and a few old BT contact centre workers (probably the CWU reps and a few others). There’s going to be no good will from the public and very little disruption to BT so what will be your next move? Could rumble on till inflation is slowing and you lose your argument for more money and then what?
I’d have thought that by Nov they would be wanting you to re contract onto EE products as that will be their lead brand so you may find they’ll have some great deals for you then.
It isn't a food bank. It is intended to help people out that have forgotten to bring in some lunch or can't get to the shops (bearing in mind lots of them work 10 or 12 hour shifts). They have to replace the items at a later date.
As far as I know you don't have to replace the food at food banks.
If the strike goes ahead surely it wouldn't be well supported by the employees as each day they will lose a minimum £80 in pay so after a few days they would have lost more than they are campaigning for?
From what I have seen on social media they are asking for 10% and the pay increase of £1500 is 7.9% for lots of them so they are striking for £400 increase in pay but will lose £80 for each day they take part.
I think if it was me I would probably vote for action to see if BT would up their offer but if it came to striking I would continue to work as it is too big a gamble for too little reward.
'You are very much mistaken Wetherboy , the EE call centre workers are on less then 20k/annum. And it looks like the BT call centre people will eventually earn a similar wage , as they will , in the future work for EE (corporate division)'
BeeTee this is not accurate. The EE call centre workers are paid a minimum of £20,511 and all of the BT, EE and PN call centre workers are paid exactly the same amount when hired (this has been the case for a few years now).
Easy to check just visit their recruitment website and you'll see.
