Today the Swedish government decided on the final storage of nuclear waste. The Greens vehemently opposed the decision. The new Social democratic minister of environment, Annika Strandhall, completely crushed the arguments of the former partner, the Greens. She indirectly called them incompetent and resistant to overwhelming research on nuclear waste storage.
IMHV, this is yet another example of the breakup between the social democrats and the Greens that points to the likelihood of a positive decision regarding Kallak. The Greens opposed the mine and now all? Ministers are in favor of opening new mines.
A few days ago Thor complained about the county administrative board taking too long to come to a decision concerning new mines.

Shortly thereafter a second article mentioned that a county administrative head had to leave (was politically appointed and his term was not renewed - had been there for 13 years). My interpretation of the article is that he had to leave because he had his own agenda - to stop mining.

You cant but wonder if Thor is cleaning up and getting rid of obstacles in the approval process?
Google translate:
There is broad support in parliament for an iron ore mine in Kallak. This is shown by a round-up conducted by the online newspaper Altinget among Sweden's parliamentary parties. If the S-government chooses to say yes to an iron ore mine in Kallak, it is a decision that has broad support among the other parties in the Riksdag, writes Altinget.Only the Green Party is today clearly opposed to a mine. In the Left Party, an internal process is underway to determine what the party thinks about the issue.
Hi, I just invested a bit of cash in BMN and started to read about the company. Could someone please give me a crash course of the most important bits of information that I should know about? Why invest, why not, risks etc.
Thanks!
I agree. If you listen to the interview Thor says nothing about a decision in March. He only says that they will wait for the Sami statement before making a decision.
Thor is pressed on whether he likes reindeer as much as mining and says that he likes reindeer as much but that he will not give any info on the decision now.
All in all, it is an interview that does not really say anything new. Nothing bad, nothing good!
Sure, link to their facebook page:

Thorwaldssons latest Facebook post from yesterday afternoon.... if this is not an indication of a yes decision I don´t know what is?
We Social Democrats love mines – it has been widely distributed.
The green transition is central to the great challenge of our time, the climate. The Swedish mining and mineral industry is of great importance for Sweden as a country, in the regional and local perspective and outside Sweden's borders. It is about jobs, welfare and the extraction of metals and minerals that are important for the green and digital transition that we need to make – the transition that also creates the jobs of the future.
A couple of examples: an electric car contains about 3-4 times more copper than a car with an internal combustion engine and at the same time the EU has an import demand for copper of 82%. To produce batteries, which are often found in smartphones and electric cars, cobalt is an important metal and its demand is predicted to increase by almost 2,400% in the EU.
This may mean that we are opening new mines in Sweden. But at the same time, I would like to stress that Sweden has, and will continue to have, high standards in the review process. Swedish legislation must of course be followed, and we should not compromise on the protection of either the environment, cultural values or, for that matter, the work environment.
The video is already up.
In his final remark, Thorwaldsson says that one reason why Sweden is a leading nation in many industries is due to its many important mines. He also reiterates that he loves mines. Finally, he says he can be judged soon and that when he says a decision will be made in the near future he means the near future.
The Sami have until the first week of February to send in their comments. Shortly thereafter a decision will be made if you believe what Thorwaldsson says.
Even the Sami people expect a yes, decision (In Swedish):

What matters even more than sustainability is to win the Swedish election in September 2022. And the Greens have admitted that they stopped new mines. With the majority of the opposition and the ruling party (Social democrats, S) speaking in favor of mines, my humble opinion is that S actually is in favor of mines (they will gain/keep more votes). However, they likely want to follow protocol and do things in the right order, tick all the boxes etc. And, if possible keep a good relationship with the Sami people.
After that, I think we will have a positive decision. From what Thorwaldsson has said in a couple of interviews, a decision will not be far away.
The Greens (former minister Per Bolund et al) have written an article arguing for not allowing any new mines in Sweden. Instead, Sweden should import all minerals needed for the green economy! To counter the "dirty" mining in other countries (read China) Sweden should redirect aid to "help" them see the light. How naive! When you read the article you get the feeling a yes is a given and thus the need for the article to get publicity and gain some Sami votes for the Greens.
