If the owned property is undervalued on the books why not sell it and lease it back? Marston's owns a significantly higher proportion of its pubs compared to competitors so I don't see a problem, use the sale proceeds to pay down debt. Got a funny feeling this is way too simplistic or surely they would have joined the companies doing this already.
Bit of a catch 22 for some who prefer income over capital growth. Suppose the SP doubles in next year, that leaves the divi at less than 5%, so new buyers may well be more focused on growth rather than divi whereas the divi hunters are less likely to see this as an attractive holding. Interesting times ahead, a strong buy for medium to long term surely.
Why invest in UK shares when you don't know from one year to the next how much you will be allowed to keep ? Reducing the profit you can make before the tax axe falls is not conducive to investment either for small investors or large companies ( the oil and gas windfall tax is a good example) let's see if the upcoming budget speech can reverse some of the damage.
Weirdly today I found myself looking up the gas price.....more than once!!!
Coldspy try doing a search for charts showing earth temp during an interglacial period, it should show multiple charts all showing the pattern of temp from the first ice age to now. It's fairly obvious from them that we have been through the same cycle at least 4 times, as humans weren't utilising oil and gas for the first 3 cycles so can't have been responsible for the temp rise. Instead of beating ourselves up for causing it can we please get on with planning how we deal with it because it's inevitable no matter what we do.
Gas may be having an up day, would be nice if we joined in.
