Looks like the government are paying bbi solutions to analyse some n protein binding antibodies cooked up by Oxford University, and some Aptamers from Aptamer Group.
The recommended reagents will then be taken forward to ‘prototype development of a lateral flow test.’
This government never ceases to amaze.

I don’t know for sure, but she congratulated Fiona on LinkedIn, and going by their surname, I made the connection.
Looks like they are reintroducing lab validation.
It’s an open public consultation, so I suggest we all give our opinions on type of sample (anything but frozen)!
This one as well:

Saw a very senior member of a recruitment agency liked Avacta's most recent LinkedIn post.
Checking out their website, I may have come across a goldmine of Avacta recruitment.

I was thinking all those black redactions could equally be hiding the name Mologic.
But then I thought, why would that be redacted? It’s not exactly sensitive information for Mologic to be revealed as the supplier working with the manufacturer THEY set up.
Avacta on the other hand, being a listed company and all, would be considered very sensitive...
I would also suggest that some people may be misreading the NHS/innova tests by accident.
The NHS booklet shows that one line next to the C (control) means a negative result. But this line appears pretty quickly after you drop the solution into the well. Sometimes within less than a minute. You are meant to then wait at least thirty minutes to make sure no line becomes visible next to the T, which would mean a positive test.
I would not be surprised if a lot of home testers don't wait that long and instead see that their test matches the picture of a negative test in the booklet and report a negative test - perhaps by mistake.
Must be because we are using their fully integrated self-test design. See their radx press release for details. Only explanation in my point view.
More jobs going at Abingdon (probably)

“Due to significant demand for their services, both with the COVID-19 piece and subsequently in other areas, they are now recruiting for several Software Engineer / Software Developers (IPR/CNN “
“Primary Duties and responsibilities:Design and develop software for measuring lateral-flow tests on smartphones.”
Perhaps we might get a surprise product launch next week. Not LFT related, but rather another innovative application using those beautiful little affimers!
And maybe Sir Al might give us a live product demonstration... https://youtu.be/SgdV4SGkD9E?t=10
Here's hoping.
Let's look at this logically, starting with the facts. Avacta is currently validating a lateral flow device in Europe and has been doing some for many weeks. They originally expected this to be concluded around the end of Q1. They do not have to announce their results until June (6 months after the end date). Today's RNS has come a lot later than previous notices of results - last year it was Feb.
In my opinion, the logical conclusion for this is they have been a little delayed but are on the cusp of LFT results and CE marking before Thursday next week. Either that or something has gone terribly wrong. Why would they announce results with a presentation knowing that an unresolved lft would cast a terrible stink over the whole affair? Especially if you could officially delay a few weeks more into May.
The answer is you wouldn't unless you knew that things had gone terribly OR it wouldn't be an issue.
So pick your side of the argument and invest accordingly over the next 6 days. I'll be holding/buying any artificial dips. GLA
That has been updated this afternoon - I visited the site this morning and it was the old one. Interesting.
I don’t think it is the combined test, but I do think it could be our first glimpse of the test cassette Avacta will be using.
I think it’s more the picture of the tests. We know the design has been standardised, but we haven’t seen what this really means in reality. Could this be the new standard design for lateral flow swab tests? Ie the design for Avacta too
Interesting pic of lateral flow tests. Funky new design. Guess it would need custom tooling for manufacturing.
Sujood, why do I get the faint impression that you live in an enchanted forest? Perhaps in a toadstool?
Fantastic find! High chance of being Abingdon as the advertised location of Sand Hutton is where Abingdon is based inside the York Biotech campus. A few things struck me. Firstly, these jobs have all been posted in a short time period over the last few weeks. This could indicate they have been given the green light to begin a major recruitment drive for a massive project (IS IT US?)
And what a project! 24 hours production, seven days a week. These are the shift hours for the weekend assembly line workers:
AM Shift - £10.50 per hour; 6am till 2pm
PM Shift - £11.50 per hour; 2pm till 10pm
Night Shift - £12.50 per hour; 10pm till 6am
Lastly, this is written as one of the job requirements: A basic DBS check will be undertaken, upon start, due to the nature of the company/site.
DBS checks are not normally required for basic manufacturing roles unless they are making something for the government. The Surescreen government contract states that everyone working on that project needed to have a DBS done.
A coincidence? Maybe. Perhaps. Who knows. But looks like Abingdon is planning for something big - whoever that might be with.
DPS for at least 12 months

My thoughts exactly.
We all know there is a big difference between lab performance and clinical performance.
Not to mention the BRH test needs a shoebox-size device so manufacturing and ease-of-use come into question.
Anyway, each to their own.
