I think your thinking to short term with Sainsbury’s bank .. right now yep not much money to be had from retail mortgages and loans ... but the bigger the book the more profit you make .. don’t forget they can probably run that book with fewer staff ... also long term well will interest rates go lower or higher ... me thinks there is only one way from here

Re the sale of the mortgage book

Don’t forget only a few weeks ago we could no longer process all the applications for mortgages

The housing market is pretty hot at the moment and I’m sure there is a little bit of replenishment out there to add more clients to the mortgage book

The longer the stamp duty holiday stays the hotter the market

Also other providers were passing clients onto MTRO because of the 90% LTV mortgages they were offering

The future is looking bright however politically not so
