Barclays problems amongst many, if they wanted U-turn and be forgiven, how could they expect shareholders to be on board especially when they also conveniently forgot dividends from 2020 and 2021. The covid proved to be aren't that bad unlike the financial crisis yet, profit accrued were not distributed out.

If they really respected shareholders, they'd have declared special dividends and such to improve their public relations. At the moment, dividend is bad, has regulators telling them if they could or not distribute profits and stuff, who'd want to support the management? Their public relations is closed to 0.

Look at NatWest and Barclays total dividends and payouts. One is miserable and shows clearly from its price. Simples

Look for a company that respects shareholders as well as staff. Some companies at regulators' intervention, annulled dividends and after some years conveniently forget they could have paid dividends but didn't and magically those years monies disappeared but their bonus pool still exists.

If the board does not recognise this and is unaware of why their stock price is lousy and needs consultants then I think they all need to go...

Did Barclays after skipping dividends in 2020, did they ever repay dividends from those skipped profitable period yet covid era or just keep quiet about it and resumed dividends based on profits in their respective years?

What about bonuses, did they skip them in that year?

Well as long as dividends and buybacks are mediocrity, payouts are mediocrity, buying another business would just be background news. If they make a superstar payout with buying businesses then it is another level upwards

You don't think such difficult analysis... A 40p earnings stock but a lousy dividend 8.xxp or with buybacks 13p in total isn't going make anyone feeling good with this stock.

They could pay much higher but don't want to maybe because they pay staff better? What it is, as long as the payout is low, its price is also low.

I still think they should consolidate 1 for 4 and do long term buybacks with good dividends so the short term is good enough dividends but long term be great dividends with less shares in circulation. That would make its price better value.

Until dividend and payouts improve, this is always a 150p stock...

I don't think that kind of dividend will make the stock price hot. If anything at all, would be lousy. What they need to do is to make their stock price look good and rebase their dividend from the top. Maybe do a 1 for 4 consolidation with a 40p dividend per share per year and a 40p or more per share buyback per year. A effective 50% to 70% payout on earnings.

@MasterRSI you are definitely wrong. You read it backwards. If you had become a majority shareholder, you have an obligation to notify that you passed the threshold.

In that RNS, the issuer or company is the European Trust and the entity who has the obligation is Barclays.

@badprophet I guessed M&A is quicker and probably be cheaper than trying to build a retail arm? And you get the rests as well. Also easier to swallow if you are way bigger than your target?

@robina Barclays stock price is rubbish because its dividend is rubbish. If they cut then it crashes. They need to up dividends but also make payout cheaper by buying back shares. They should have been buying more shares years ago but now they need to tread carefully because their payout is regulated. They probably need PRA approval on huge payouts.

Since Barclays now is cheap; would any US centric investment banks wanting to have a strong retail arm and enhancing their investment banking units be thinking of M&A. Most USA banks easily worth many times more than Barclays in its current state. Even £3 is still smaller than their own valuations?
