Shares in pharmaceutical company BTG (BGC) slipped by 2.5p to 184.6p despite it announcing that partner Onyx Pharmaceuticals has received authorisation from the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to begin a Phase I clinical study on ONX 0801. ONX 0801 is a novel compound that inhibits thymidylate synthase, an enzyme involved in cell growth and division. The drug may provide significant benefits in the treatment of a range of cancer types. This development triggered a 7 million dollar payment from Onyx to BTG. The company granted worldwide rights to Onyx to develop and commercialise the compound in November 2008, in return for an upfront payment of 13 million dollar, potential development and commercial milestones totalling 307 million dollars, and a royalty on product sales.

I tried to get back in today, with a limit order, at the current buy price. It didn’t go through. It was a reasonably large order, but the same amount, that I sold last week. Oh well, if it drops any more, it will be an even bigger bargain, if I can get in. ATB
