PUNCH TAVERNS shares fell up to 22 per cent after an analyst called it “a zombie” yesterday. Redburn Partners’ Charles Winstone said there was a high risk of Punch defaulting on debts. LATER HE AGREED THE NOTE HAD ERRORS AND SHARES RECOVERED. BUT N.B. Debt level: Punch has £4.5billion of debt and is valued at about £160million. Shares have fallen 95 per cent in 18 months.

Yes, things are depressing right now. However, some pharmas have been more encouraging, recently! I’m still keen on ASM & BGC. PS I still thing that, cash-wise, AZM is in reasonable positive territory, for now. Take care!

"Electricity generator International Power has an excellent free cash flow position. It has been growing it significantly over the past few years. The group also operates in a relatively recession-resilient market and, with a prospective yield of 4.7%, it is attractive on this front too. Group assets in the Middle East continue to perform well and the company has recently increased capacity in the region. All in all, International Power looks in a good position to weather the downturn and is well placed to grow earnings longer term. Its shares are a buy says the Telegraph."

Here, is the report from the Scotsman - just to make your day: "STAGECOACH chief executive Brian Souter has increased his stake in the transport group to almost 15 per cent after a multi-million-pound share buying spree. The move, confirmed yesterday in a stock exchange announcement, came a day after a bearish outlook on rail revenues spooked investors, driving shares in the Perth-based firm to a two-year low at one stage. Souter increased his holding by buying £2 million of shares through his Inter Vivos Trust and just over £905,000 worth of stock via Highland & Universal Securities. Meanwhile, director Sir George Mathewson bought 35,800 ordinary shares costing just under £50,000. Stagecoach shares yesterday closed 7 per cent down at 133.1p."

Stagecoach chief executive Brian Souter has taken advantage of a tumbling share price to buy nearly £3m worth of shares in the bus and train group. The purchases, in two tranches at 139p, take Souter's stake in the firm he founded to 14.85%. [Digital Look Alert]

…definitely moving into an interesting region. May put a cheeky long order in tomorrow [but very cheeky] and see how it goes. My worry is that it may test £ resistance level [to use charting parlance – it amazing how one falls into bad habits!]
