Gabon wants to restart oil production with Pilgrim Exploration Ltd
(BFI) – After the recent initialling with Gabon Oil Company (GOC), a new signing ceremony of the Production Exploitation and Sharing Contracts (CEPP) took place on October 28 in Libreville. Placed under the supervision of the Minister of Oil and Gas, Sosthène Nguema Nguema, it concerned the Ndjila blocks n° G4-269 ex CD2 and Mpari n°G4-270 ex CD3 between the Gabonese State and the company Pilgrim Exploration Limited.
The agreement was eagerly awaited. Especially since it is participating in the search for solutions to increase Gabonese oil production. Signed on October 29 between the Gabonese government via the Minister of Oil and Gas and the company Pilgrim Exploration Limited, it marks an important step to revive this oil production that has been declining for several years and strengthen collaboration between the government and the private sector.
At the time of the signing of the CEPP for the Ndjila (G4-269) and Mpari (G4-270) oil blocks, the Minister of Energy, Sosthène Nguema Nguema, stressed the crucial importance of this event in a difficult national context. "We have a situation of decline in our production and we dare to believe that today the signing of the CEPP will continue to revive, if not stabilise the dramatic situation of our production," he said.
He recalled that the oil sector contributes to 45% of Gabon's GDP, insisting on the need for all stakeholders to work with a "collective awareness". The first government official of the hydrocarbon sector also called for strict compliance with Gabonese laws and a strengthening of local content in the sector to avoid the abuses observed by some companies
