I was surprised at that too.

Solar power has great difficulty in supplying national grids because supply cannot be synchronised with demand. However ELIX only needs a minimum number of sunshine hours each year, like the desalination plant in the Canaries or the Dutch needing a minimum amount of wind each year to pump their country dry (from the 1200s).

If only national governments could be as far sighted as Alberto, and up front! The 'worries' are known knowns and I am reassured that they have been mentioned: typical Alberto! :)

I expect ELIX will have a few teething problems but will be fixed in a timely manner.

Knocking a few corners off would be a little severe a description, but that, done repeatedly, is how to make square wheels work. :)

The beauty of the E-LIX System, (I am expecting it to work :) ), is that when the Sun isn't shining much, there are no angry customers. Just as long there's enough Sun each year, and we are in southern Spain, after all.
It was why the Dutch were so successful pumping their country dry: and they aren't even in southern Europe.

Western politicians and Activists (including the BBC) have been calling for reduced production of reliable energy, and it has resulted in higher prices. Well, who would have expected of that! :). Unfortunately, it appears to be affecting more than just the West.

In the West, they have the problem of the only solution being a change of policy which, for some, will be like a change in religion.

The theory is that, long term, Evergrande's demise will lead to less building activity, so demand for the base metals associated with Silver will drop, and that will lead to a reduction in Silver production, and to a Silver price increase.

That's the theory, and is useful as it can be tested as time passes.

The guy is a Silver junkie :) so it should be enjoyable for those here, and his observations about the imminent collapse are more than just interesting. :)

The YT channel Suspicious 0bservers (I think it is a Zero) work with the theory that just as the Sun emits a current sheet in the equatorial plane, so does our galaxy. The solar current sheet can be detected by satellites as they pass through it every ten days or so as the current sheet is rippled, and it also affects the magnetosphere.

In a similar way, our galaxy's current sheet should affect the Sun regularly, with Geological evidence showing cycles of 1500, 3000, 6000 and the big one every 12,000 years. I find it feasible, and very intriguing, and it would explain why the Sun exhibits periodic behaviour. It's quite an engrossing channel, with updates every day reporting on solar flares, CMEs, Sun spots and many academic papers relating to them, the Electric Universe theory and how they affect the Earth's weather, volcanic activity and thunder storms. So beware! Talk about revolutionary thinking! :)

This is one of those hypotheses (from an Engineer :) ) that could be true, possibly, but it is useful to know as we will be able to check it out as time passes. (It's what Science is all about.)

The people in charge do not understand that a project of this size requires a plan, an overall plan: and there isn't one. So how reliable do you think it is? :)

They might get tax breaks, but they pay taxes. They didn't used to get subsidies, and Oil/Gas producers still don't, but Electricity generators do now as they are needed to ensure continuity of supply. Without CCGTs (closed circuit gas turbines) there would be plenty of power cuts, especially this year when the UK has had insufficient wind! They have even brought back some coal-fired generators to fill the gaps.

Renewable Energy companies do get subsidies, derived from our Green Taxes. They can also supply Electricity and earn money when ever they want (when the wind blows or the Sun shines), so the CCGTs have to stop and start to order, which wears them out prematurely, and have to be on standby, without earning for short and long periods. That is a non-monetary subsidy for the renewable generators.

In my world, jobs cost money, and spending £3t creating an inferior infrastructure that is more expensive to run would be best avoided. It would be better to check out the original assumptions before committing to the inconvenience and cost.
