Can anyone give me a good reason not to dump HE1 and leap into QHE? Surely QHE is further along it's evolutionary life cycle and is better placed to benefit from current situation, for the forseeable future anyway? Discuss...

In the absence of a full picture my comment may be superfluous but being so close to the margins of HRT, if you haven't been, you should be utilising your £3,000 nil rate band each and every year. Given the potential for substantial gains and a decent yield it makes great sense to ISAtise UKW. I just did it at the end of March with Vanguard UK Eq Inc Index (brilliant performer with a good yield btw) which had made a gain of £5k+, so I also realised losses on Aviva and L&G to bring me back under the threshold and reinvested those funds elsewhere to benefit from any bounce.

They introduced an uncapped charge of 0.35% pa on shares, ETF's and IT's from 1st March whether in a General Fund Account or an ISA. They did however reduce dealing charges at the same time. My monthly charges have risen massively but I'm not sure about passing it all over to T212, owned by a couple of Bulgarian entrepreneurs as opposed to good old UK domiciled HL.

Morning Marcus, I did something similar last year and on checking my transaction record I sold Artemis Income on 17 April but couldn't reinvest for a week. Obviously, it's generally better to be in the market but with volatility so high due to Trump's shenanigans in the Gulf, it could go either way. I just lost out this year doing a bed & ISA with Vanguard over Easter weekend using my CGT allowance, when there was a bounce but that's the way it goes...no guarantees...ho hum! Are you aware of the new charging regime HL have introduced on equity/IT holdings under ISA's? I have a big chunk of CTY with them and am seriously considering transferring to Trading 212, where I keep my shares.

My apologies TC, I assumed that your income drop was rather more catastrophic overall. While I still think a 10% weighting is a little excessive, I understand your thinking behind it all and feel much the same way but to a lesser degree. I also took a punt on the green approach for some of the right ethical reasons, and a belief that govt support would continue for the sector, but I must admit there was a tinge of greed also for that meaty yield. Investments in both this and UKW were to offset lower yielding generators such as Artemis Income but I came in way too late and too high. I will hold for the long term and try not to watch it daily.

I do have some sympathy with the management, operating in an environment where the revenue stream is not entirely within their gift. At least we are not operating in the US where the administration's policies depend on the amount of paranoia medication DT is on at any given tine.

It might be suggested that you shafted yourself by over-reliance on a fragile income source. NESF yield should ideally only be the peak of an income pyramid with solid underlying foundations, such as CTY or JGGI. Anything with a running yield above 4-5% will obviously have a progressively greater degree of risk attaching. I got enticed in but only risked 2.5% of my income portfolio and averaged down when that had fallen by 25%. I am now looking at a 33% loss but have now had c.8% back. So it hurts, but only a bit.

I am considering a defensive play to make my divi income stream more robust to protect vs. UK CPI, while at the same time diversifying my market spread within my predominantly UK portfolio.

It's some time since there were a number of negative posts from justifiably disgruntled long term investors and I'm intrigued to know if they stuck with it and have not regretted doing so, or whether they bailed out and now regret that?

The unrealised capital losses weigh far heavier than the yield (a quarter's dividend can be wiped in a few days) so for now, that is my prime objective although I originally invested for the yield. Recovery in the SP requires new money and one of the issues putting off new investors is the unsustainably high yield. Imo the sooner the yield is trimmed to something more realistic long term, the sooner we see a northwards progression in price. The macro conditions are still favourable though I would like to see more exposure to some Spanish sunshine...new IPO in the offing, would like to see some of that and then we can really hit the beach.

Depends on the platform. Eg. Nothing on T212, or on HL at the moment, but HL are introducing a 0.35% annual charge, deducted monthly, from 1st March.

Surely that has to be the worst news out of the way and we can look forward to positive momentum against a backdrop of positive news generally in the sector. I was dripping loose change in but have now doubled my holding to hopefully recoup some of my 30% loss, having been sucked in too high.

Good to hear some optimism but I can't imagine much happening until the review in March/April. Fingers crossed that all the downside outcomes are already factored into the SP. I plan to drip spare funds in until then.

I note that some investors were on the cusp of investing more in NESF early last year but held off. I bought in but have recently been veering towards saying "bye bye!" ...or should I be saying "buy, buy!"?
