So did I. UU. is regarded as the most likely t/o target as it is a pure water play, like Northumbrian. All the UK utilities are potential targets, IMO, so I hold the lot. Great defensives & good dividends + added t/o spice.

What would an SP of 40p signify? I usually hold an M&A punt until takeover OR BOD refuses to consider friendly bids & hostile offers seem unlikely. Yes, that maybe a long time, (XTRATA), but it is a clear strategy.

That's more than you can say for Cable & Wireless which went from £8 to £2 due to accounting black holes. A share buyback cannot be wasted by definition, ask Mr Buffett. I made money when CWC was taken over by VOD and expect to make some more when CWC gets to the alter. If not, the company is in better shape than when the World Map was pink.
