I will be facing the same situation in a couple of years as I have 28 years in the original scheme that I can take. Fortunately this is ring fenced by the government.
I understand that the pension scheme had to change in 2008 as they were going to be in trouble following a large 'pensions contribution holiday' by Royal Mail in the 1990s. BT are currently looking to review their pension scheme as they allegedly have a projected £2bn shortfall as a result of a similar 'pensions contribution holiday'.

So you are not prdc or the person who posted the following below?

Oggie19, your final salary pension is the amount accrued up until March 31st 2008 and is ring fenced and guaranteed by Her Majesty's Government. The only difference is if you are in the A/B or B/C scheme.
From April 1st 2008 to March 31st 2018 you would be in the "Defined Benefit" scheme which is based on your annual income, in other words you build up credits each year.
If you think that your pension has not been calculated correctly then contact the pension helpline.
The pension fund does make mistakes and I am currently working with the CWU and Royal Mail because I have CWU members that have not been deducted the correct amount since 1998 which could impact their pension by as much as 10%.

Hi Oggie19, I'm interested to learn how you lost circa £10k on your final salary pension. Was this in the lump sum or the monthly salary payment?

Redceo, my understanding is that Rico doesn't like the agreement that the CWU had with Moya Greene and Sue Whalley (which is why Whalley was first out of the door).
As a long standing Royal Mail/GLS employee he knew what he was walking into and didn't need to take the job.

That's the point. In the 21st century the average worker has access to infinite resources in order to understand modern working practices and is better informed to make their choices based upon what they have learnt.
If they have learnt that the new Boss wants to start ripping up existing agreements then there are going to be issues, that is the natural reaction.
By 'stubborn colleagues' do you mean 'staff that thought management would honour an existing agreement?'
I have been an RMG employee for over 40 Years (a dinosaur) and have seen many changes and disputes but over the last 30 years and despite quite a few industrial action ballots have only been called out on official strike action for 3 days! A ballot for industrial action is usually a sign of sabre rattling and opinion gauging but very rarely results in strike action.

CWU LTB 510/19 Ballot for Industrial Action over the Four Pillars Agreement has just been released.

Quinny, the current RMtv message is that RM and the CWU have gone to external mediation.
The CWU are also holding a briefing/meeting on Thursday in Liverpool for reps in order to bring them up to speed on current events.
I think that the next 10 weeks will be interesting. There is also Brexit to think about (don't forget that RM uses a lot of French machinery) so the share price could be all over the place which could present some great opportunities for investors.

I think that it is safe to assume that if you are contracted to work 38 hours a week and you work 4 shifts (9pm to 6:30am which is 4 X 9.5 hours equalling 38 hours) then the 2 x 20 minute breaks that you get each shift are paid?
If not then the maths don't add up!

On second thoughts, perhaps you are a wasted talent?
Applying your logic you should be able to sort RMG, Brexit, global warming and single use plastics by the end of the year!
RMG is a complex beast and cannot be overhauled or reformed overnight. It's the same with the NHS.

HeresHopin, your last post shows that you really have no idea about the Royal Mail infrastructure and industrial relations agreements.
If you are a non RM employee but invest in RMG then I would suggest that it would be worth your while investigating the RM IR Framework and keep abreast of news issued by RM and the CWU. The knowledge gleaned may assist you with timing your purchases and sales of RMG shares.
