I cited the Times article on the new BT boss's package because, in your 1st post, you wrote this:

But 85 million options says the opposite.

They're not easy to see if you look at them from the side.

Nobody will make a bid without believing they can dislodge some of the principal shareholders, so agree, it's a kind of catch 22 situation.

The performance of Genel for Turkish investors is vastly better than for British investors, precisely because they are investing in a £-quoted stock and, therefore, making (lots of) money on the currency.

Not convinced by take-over prospects of Genel.

The stock is tightly held by its loyal principal shareholders: a bid to dislodge them might have to be pitched at a level bearing little relation to the share price quoted in the market.

So if Genel now has more cash than debt, shouldn't its EV be less than its market cap?

You'd be surprised, ifonly1, some people buy, not because a share is going up, but, because they anticipate it will be going up.

When Genel peaked earlier this year, it had trebled in about 6 months.

It has been consolidating that rise for the last many months and is now back down in the low 200s.

Doesn't the present level represent a base for another very strong upward movement?

I think my end-of-year forecast was 600p.

I may have to adjust the time-frame a little (!!), but 600p still seems to me a reasonable round-figure objective.

The "someone who has bought them" is an MM.

In theory, you could have 100% buys and the share price might not move - all it requires is for somebody to sit on the offer.
