Italy want our masks14 Jan 2021 19:01
Professor Gareth Cave, a scientist at Nottingham Trent University who specialises in nanotechnology, has just announced the creation of a mask capable of killing Covid-19, neutralising incoming viruses.
In an interview with ITV, the scientist explained that the mask is able to eliminate coronavirus "above the 90% threshold". The device is in fact equipped with five layers, of which a water-repellent outer coating that is able to prevent inhalation of the droplets carrying the virus. In addition, the mask has a copper coating, a material that, by releasing ions, can exterminate the virus on contact.
The mask would have a guaranteed effectiveness of 7 hours and, according to La Repubblica, is waiting for EC certification before being placed on the market throughout Europe, at the price of 1 euro per piece.
In the meantime, the mask has already obtained the ISO 18184 certification, which determines the requirements of the antiviral activity of textile products, after the texts conducted in the independent laboratories of virology research services in London.
There are several European countries, including Italy, that have requested the first batches of this mask: the manufacture, according to Professor Cave, will be able to provide up to 5 million masks per month
