Who owns the shares, it will be a unit trust or an OEIC generally ?!

Can they just give the shares away to the short sellers - is there not a trust deed that they have to abide by ?

One thing that may have been overlooked in all of the talk about Metro possibly falling out of the FTSE350 - where do most short sellers get their stock from ??

Why if you haven't got to hold shares (like index trackers do) would you loan your stock out if you knew the price would probably drop ?? What fund manager would think that was the best strategy for a year end bonus ??!

So if Metro do drop out then the tracker funds can no longer hold the stock so would want their shares back - wouldn't they ??!

How will they get them back if they've all been sold ?

It really isn't looking good for the short sellers on a risk and reward basis, and they know it now. Only bad or a really bad market news can save them on this one now..

FWIW it is true, but more importantly I believe that these forums should be about playing with a straight bat. Long or short it doesn't matter - lots of good information and great insight to be found in my experience - I've bought and sold shares countless times based on what I see on these boards (providing it has credibility)

Prof - I Invest because of value not price, I'm not trying to catch the bottom, I'm just trying to obtain a decent average before the good news comes and the shorts start to close. The only real risk is a run on Metro as a depositor or some hideous unforeseen accounting scandal that I just don't see happening.

Market and Brexit sentiment against all banks, lots of other negative sentiment gunning for Metro - it will eventually rotate - it always does.

Unlike our friend ILLbeaderamper I do have qualifications in relevant stuff - not IT

As a self starter I run a company that manages c£150m of client assets and sold my property company to a FTSE350 company last year. I've traded for 30 years and although I've got things wrong from time to time buying Metro Bank shares won't be one of them.

Bigsmoke - market sentiment against my bank trades so I'm below water on a hefty accumulation of RBS, Lloyds, Barclays and Metro. Traded out of all losses by long Vix and short S&P again until yesterday (closed too early probably)

I'm delighted to be buying and holding banks at these levels..

Valuations very good once the dust settles, no deal is pretty much in the price - won't happen IMO..
