As you mentioned QZ...LLOY...and must admit tempted....likewise BP when it hit the low....early days

Aldis...not for me...still getting the choice cuts of fillet and sirloin...and occasionally slum it with a really tasty steak pie...its not fillet...but a tasty change. Quite like what I get out of Tesco by way of run of the mill stuff....know the staff well and enjoy the banter when I'm in there. Had a look at Lidl and Aldi nearby....the unfamiliar brands...put me right off. Set in my ways. Just got a message from one of the grandsons...he needs a new laptop...old one has packed in...Bank of Grampa saves the day...again. But they're worth it...and if not for me....they wouldnt be in the world anyway...so I have to make sure my genepool does ok.....LOL

As I say...I've sold half of this...could have bought back in and left cash in the bank when it went below 293.5...I didnt. SP has gone up...I can still buy back in at any time and irrespective of whether or not I get the same amount of shares for my cash is neither here nor there to me...when I eventually buy, they'd be sold when they turned a profit...maybe less profit because of smaller volume turnover, but a profit nevertheless....as I have said often...I play this for fun and keep the brain ticking over. Some of the tardes that guys speak of having done beggars belief.....some are wagering more than some people can save in a lifetime if they are to be believed...quarter million quid of trades....I'd be sunning myself somewhere cosy if that was my play pot ( with the real money still sitting in the bank)...lol

Advice...not really...just a precis on life history. Pete.....you started buying to make money...you did, but didnt capitalise at the height of profit...the companies you are in will be paying divvy....the fall that affects banks..retail and gambling...they are the first hits when the public are tightening their belts....folk are finding it hard to make ends meet, so instead of fillet steak out the local butchers, they are buying fillers out of Aldi and the likes....when the economy picks up...as it will....fillet steaks will be back on the menu....its hard to hold on when you see your hard earned dripping into some smart alecs pocket......be the smart alec...the one who buys when the market bottoms out. Hold onto your cash for a bit and see how things run

Prior to that the previous period for 4-5k was oct 2002 to May 2005

The time span for the 4-5 k mark on the FTSE was the whole of August 2009 if that helps to cut down your searches 👍

You can be bothered.....try and see the historic prices of companies when the FTSE was 4000 -5000, that would be the true value if the s h i t hit the fan tomorrow. During the 80's I knew of a guy who had sunk his whole lot into the market....the market collapsed and he panicked...sold and lost at least half of his money.....a few years down the line he would have recouped his loss and would have been in receipt of annual income via dividend payments which didnt stop due to the drops in the share prices...maybe reduced, but not stopped altogether.

They are out the window at the moment...FTSE 100 bounced 6980 - 7080, reflecting more hits on the blue chippers. On the daily charts things were iffy... when you look at the longer term, todays interference is a pinprick.....BUT.....if the pinprick becomes a festering sore and the FTSE slide continues.....thats another story. The way I use the charts is mainly on the minute timing....good for daytrading.....on the longer time spans, you are looking at trend...which is a good guide...but what is happening just now in the markets is not reflected in long term views on trend...current trends are changing rapidly. Caution is the byword...extreme caution. What you dont dip into today...might be a bit more expensive to buy a week/month/year from now....but the opposite could be true. Consolidate and watch.

297.85 was pretty close to what I was hoping......now can she hold that and move on, now that all the bad news is done and dusted?

Its a hard choice in the current climate....I opted to sell half then Angela helps out with her yapping....Donald must be due to throw a spoke in the wheel as well. Had a look around the market...quite a few of the blue chippers went ex div today....most have fallen more than the value of the divvy, some made back some ground only to start selling off again. I might...might being the operative put the proceeds of the half sell into one of them, MKS or SBRY....even BP is running north from earlier low.

And nice to se the rise which is holding 296.5 - 298........be quite happy to see her close at the higher end without any relapses when the yanks kick off later. Good job I only sold half if she's building up for a north run....giddyup lady

Totally agree with your last spiel, but the day trader in me forced my hand to sell half today and see how things run. So far I havent seen anything anywhere that makes me change my mind about the 286, and now possibly 270's before anything changes.As for the buy backs by Ivan & Co......think about it....the lower it goes, the lower any premium theyd have to pay to go private,......in the meantime, he is hoovering up shares right left and centre at this ridiculously low levels, and.....if and when the times right, release them from treasury at another handsome profit to the company.

Didnt bother buying back...felt it was pointless at this jucture....if tomorrow is more rational behaviour, might think more seriously about buying that half back....but not today...GLA

So selling off half near the higher end has resulted with me being able to buy for a fair bit less at current Sell: 291.00p | Buy: 291.10p |

My re-entry....but might as well hold off until nearer close
