This report from reuters after the local elections in Feb of this year doesn't bode well for the general elections.

Coupled with the landslide approval of an anti-mining referendum in Ecuador’s third largest city, the writing could not be more up on the wall for mining’s future.

If you still don’t see the writing on the wall, the other interesting and painful statistic for the mining sector is that the most openly pro-mining candidate Geovanni Andrade, received just 0.22% of the votes. Out of a field of 16 candidates, he came in next-to-last.
