RE: And yet zero to ITM Motive for Refuelling?2 Dec 2022 18:16
SP, I had a reply from my MP
Strategy is here,...... somewhere!
"Thank you for taking the time to get in touch, and for sharing with me your views about the benefits of hydrogen for helping us to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. You are absolutely right about this – as you say, whereas “blue” hydrogen is created from fossil sources, “green” hydrogen is made through electrolysis and is an extremely green source of energy.
Currently, the Government is pursuing a twin-track approach to both “colours” of hydrogen (with carbon capture for the blue variant); the recent Energy Security Strategy sets out the ambition to create 10GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030. There will be further details announced soon – but there has already been a £26 million innovation funding programme to support industrial hydrogen fuel switching; and a £500 million investment to trial homes using hydrogen for heating and cooking. There are also aims to pilot a “hydrogen neighbourhood” in 2023, a “hydrogen village” in 2024, and plans for a potential “hydrogen town” pilot by 2030.
You are right therefore that there is a lot more that needs to be done – and a lot that should have been done already. But I hope that this offers you some reassurances that the Government does indeed appreciate the potential of hydrogen energy, and is pushing ahead with the necessary investments.
Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch, and with all best wishes,
Yours,
David
