Until late autumn 2016 Fox Marble conducted most of its processing in Carrara, Italy. Carrara has, for more than 2 millennia, been the heart of global marble production and processing there has guaranteed the high quality and consistent output essential in the dimension stone business. However, shipping stone block to Carrara for processing has proved slow and expensive and company strategy has always been to move processing to Kosovo as soon as its first processing plant could be completed. Drawing heavily on Italian expertise, skills transfer and mentoring Fox Marble is now putting the finishing touches to its 5,400 sqm processing plant on its 10ha site at Lipjan, 10km SW of the capital, Pristina.
Standing on a hillside slightly above the surrounding farmland and finished in a stand out yellow with the company name emblazoned on the side im high black letters, the Fox Marble factory is already something of a local landmark. Just 4.6km from the end of the runway at Pristina International Airport it advertises Fox Marble’s presence to thousands of international travellers a month.
The first production lines operational within the plant are for the production of finished stone slabs. During 2017 these lines will be augmented by lines for cut to size and marble tiles.
The plant will enable Fox Marble to realise its corporate vision of delivering its exclusive high quality marble to the highest quality dimension stone to the world market at the most competitive prices. It will serve as the prototype for processing expansion planned under Fox Marble’s daughter company, Stone Alliance.
