In Amapá, trucks with iron ore wait days to board
Large trucks are waiting up to two days on the Duca Serra Highway, close to the Santana Industrial District, in Amapá, to go
through a scale and then take iron ore to be shipped. The queuing scenario, although apparently negative, may actually be the
end of a long period without activities in one of Amapá's main vocations: mining. See the size of the queue.
The SelesNafes.Com Portal found that the ore was already accumulated Mazagão a few years ago, but only now being
withdrawn by Unagem.
The company was Canadian-owned, but recently passed to the control of a Brazilian / American holding company, with the
participation of a business group from Ceará.
In all, in the first phase, eight ships will take more than 400 thousand tons to China. The company is also reactivating the
plant in the Cupixi district, between Porto Grande and Mazagão, to restart extraction.
After the collapse of the Anglo / Zamin port in 2013, the flow through the railway was not viable. Therefore, the ore is being
removed with trucks that take everything to the port of Companhia Docas de Santana (CDSA), where an adaptation is made
that allows the ships to board.
The president of CDSA, Glauco Cei, draws attention to the amount of jobs and income that is generated from the shipment of ore.
“A ship generates 350 direct jobs, apart from indirect ones. There are more than 100 truck drivers, and we asked the company
to prioritize the hiring of trucks here in Amapá ”, he commented.
"To give you an idea: as soon as the shipping operation started, truck tire stores sold all the stock," he added, referring to the
movement that the activity makes in various segments.
