Mr Day had put together a counter-bid with a consortium of major suppliers led by Calvelex, one of Portugal’s top textile manufacturers. The Portuguese make a million garments a year and supply many of the UK’s high street ­retailers.

It is thought that Mr Day and his backers could now turn their attention to Debenhams.

Like Mr Ashley, the Dubai-based businessman is understood to be keen to take his retail empire more upmarket.

He has rescued a string of high street names over the past decade, including Peacocks, Jane Norman and Austin Reed. César Araújo, the CEO of Calvelex, tried to buy fashion chain Jaeger last year.

That is supposed to help right? Why is there such a huge discrepancy between LSE and JSE?! It's the same company!

SHire and SPire have both been involved in M&A activity in the past year. Few typos on here. One key point here is how the book price including intangibles and goodwill is approx 260p but even when all the value of these is removed - even though they must have good value for Mediclinic to offer 315p - we are still looking at 130p.

Just 6 months ago Mediclinic were prepared to offer 315p for this.
What has changed so much in that short time to warrant a HALF PRICE valuation?

Crazy.

If we take out all the intangibles/goodwill from the balance sheet we are left with net assets of approx £520M
Shares in issue 401M

The price for the tangible assets alone is 130p!

Clearly in the long run the demand for private healthcare will only rise. As the NHS becomes more and more privatised work for the likes of Spire should only increase. Ageing population to boot. This is one share that should be far less affected by Brexit than others.
