Those folk to which you refer I suspect fantasise about you, in so much that they can only imagine what you look like,they hang onto your every word and no doubt think about you just before they eventually drop off to sleep sometimes waking up suddenly and shouting your name.

I suppose it must be like listening to a radio presenter who has that mysterious and sexy voice yet have never even seen a photo of them.
