The Chancellor needs to be very careful. The incentive allowances and sunset clause made the existing WFT palatable. Tinkering now will be damaging and bring in very little extra tax.

I agree…a good buying op. I will be a buyer later if it doesn’t bounce back too much before I can transfer some cash.

I am now swinging towards ENQ scaling back investment plans in the U.K. A stand-alone development of BBK looks far too risky until we see what the next government do. Plenty to get after with low cost, short payback infill at Magnus and GE, and drilling at kraken.

None of this is really in the price anyway.

I suspect it depends how we do it. Maybe a cheap and cheerful early production to EP? That could pay for a proper development and de-risk a bit as we can learn some lessons.

BTFATH1- please don’t bet the kids dinner money on ENQ. Only bet what you can afford to lose. The fact that you feel the need to troll here to support your positions is a worrying sign that you may not be as successful as you would have us all believe!

From memory they needed a large quantity of fresh water to commission them and that was proving problematic. I’m sure I spoke to someone 4 or 5 years ago that said they were not commissioned but I could be wrong. If they weren’t then maybe they will be doing that in warm stack, or at least planning how to do it.

The generators were 16MWe. Possible they were running with a number of temporaries (I can’t recall if there was also a marine diesel set connected). I always thought STGs were a bit of a mad idea…was it because A/G didn’t produce enough gas for a GT? Learned their lesson for Kraken and got the big Tri Fuel engines.

Zippy - did the boilers ever actually get commissioned? They were operating on temporary generators for a long time if I recall correctly.

The problem as I see it is that the argument has not happened about how we go about doing it. The climate freaks,media, politicians have found a nice scapegoat with fossil fuels. In an ideal world yes we would eliminate their use. But do we still want human civilisation? Sensible conversations need to be had. Saying oil is bad is facile. It does much good. Few of us would exist without it.

Romaron - as a figure for power gen based on current exceptional gas prices it is a fair point that gas is setting the marginal price and that it is above the CFD strike price. Yes it is a bit silly to use a gas price from months ago.

I guess the worst thing is that Milliband is using this “data” to justify a complete abandonment of oil and gas.

Decarbonising power gen is fine (though the capacity required is still huge and there is an argument to be had on real costs to consumers. What is Milliband proposal for when the wind isn’t blowing? Candles and send everyone home from work?

What about our European neighbours who don’t have domestic production? Should we (and Norway, Netherlands) not at least be trying to provide a lot of this demand rather than letting Russia or German coal fill the gap?
