As I have mentioned before Mrs MPO and I have river cruised through several European countries (Germany, Austria, France, Hungary and Serbia) learning about the history of the places. Flooding is a common occurrence in many of the places, however historically the floods are not as severe as they were 150 years ago, when fossil fuel vehicles did not exist. Net Zero will not stop these events happening - no matter how much money is throw at the issue. Sadly we will all be colder and poorer in pursuit of this goal.

Based on your purchase it is 3rd time lucky, I have 2 friends who bought 2nd hand EV'S (Jaguar and an Audi both less than 3 years old) both had the same problem - batteries would only charge to a maximum 70/75% they both got full refunds and have now bought new Hybrids. As for me (at 75) I will never own an EV, taxis to airports and cruise terminals.

As for the tide, the only ones I will be standing in front of will be in the Med or Caribbean.

Consumers are the one the government need to push sales on - the fleet vehicles go back at the end of the contract and like new vehicles consumers are not buying them.

Following on from last nights is comments about the motor industry fines, the above link covers the Governments planned fines for the energy sector. There is also a story today in the FT reporting the fines received by HMRC for the late filing of tax returns are at a 5 year high.

The drive to "net zero" is bringing the country to it's knees, doing great damage to our industries, driving taxes higher, increasing unemployment and leaving the nation dependent on others to deliver our every day needs. The only growth is coming from fines.

It appears the motor car industry is under increasing pressure from Government to sell high EV quotas to a public who are "not biting in the show rooms". The government have set out a policy whereby the industry will be fined £15k per unit if they do not meet the 22% target, rising to 28% in 2026 and then onto 80% by 2030.

EV sales have collapsed in the US, all European motor manufacturers are struggling, the trend is world wide (except for China) our Governments answers is to fine the manufacturers. To add insult to injury the financial regulator is closing in on the banks (Close Bros, Lloyds and others) for the apparent mis-selling of car finance, by the non-disclosure of commission payments between banks and the selling garage. - indications are this could match the PPI scandal.

Setting aside £295m for the car finance scandal. If they have that or more exposure, Lloyds could be in a real hole - 10 or more times their exposure.

This is an interesting topic of conversation. With the age distribution of the UK population being closely watched by government. Life expectance is growing and the birth rate reducing, furthermore the percentage of "working age people" is falling due to either illness, laziness or planning. The universal winter fuel allowance for pensioners is no longer universal. The triple lock is becoming unaffordable as the pension population rises and the idea of "means testing" the state pension is spreading being talked about, presumably to support the general welfare system. There is no growing "state pension pot" they are funded annually from taxes raised.

It appears everyone is noticing, except the Labour government and Ed, lets hope it's not too late if they ever wake up to reality.

The more I read about energy security the more it becomes clear we just don't have it, furthermore we are clearly on course to have even less. Importing more electricity from Europe than ever. They are telling us "we only import electricity when it is cheaper for the end consumer", well perhaps they can explain why UK electricity costs us significantly more that our European neighbours .
