RE: Next Week.2 Aug 2025 22:30
"Russia will not back down until their objectives are met."
What are Russia's 'objectives'? Initially, to subjugate Ukraine in a week. Then it was just the four 'Russian' oblasts. Had that gone to plan, it would have been just the first step in his 'master plan' (we already see him playing games in the Baltics, whilst losing a war elsewhere).
"Trump is as deep into this war as Biden, it will soon be his war if it isn't already. He could have backed out early, his involvement during his first term in office papered over when the baton was handed to Sleepy Joe, but he's had the baton back and is running the final leg. Trump is throwing his toys out of the pram and threatening nuclear ffs. What business is it of the USA's?"
Like it or not, the USA is STILL the world's premier hegemon, and they can play policeman as they like, until someone stronger can stop them. As Great Britain used to do. Reality is starting to dawn on Trump, hence his changing direction. Credit to Europeans for that.
"Threatening all out nuclear war because his deal making skills have been shown up on the world stage. The guy is an idiot"
Yes, he's an idiot, and so is Medvedev, who threatens nuclear holocaust everytime he hits the bottom of another bottle of Vod.
"His arguments don't stack up. Israel can genocide Gaza, but Russia can't target military targets?"
Your arguments don't stack up. Ukraine is free democratic nation, not a proscribed terrorist organisation hell bent on the extermination of a nation, nor did they launch an attack across the border killing innocents and taking hostages, whereas Russia did!
"Russia have rejected the Kellogg ceasefire deal time and time again, yet that's the only offer Trump's team put on the table. A ceasefire for 30 days that would enable Ukraine to regroup, bunker up, get weapons where they need them most and be re-armed by NATO and the collective west."
It also allows Russia to "regroup, bunker up and get weapons where they needed them". Is it possible that those tasked with finding peace are actually attempting a de-escalation, that Putin refuses, because any sort of peace now without achieving his most minimal of objectives (see above) will be seen as losing face, an embarrassing loss, giving his enemies at home 'ammunition'.
"They're trying to play Putin for a fool and behaving like spoilt children because they're not clever enough to kid him again. Remember, Putin has been played by the West since 2014, and naively he thought he could resolve the issues by diplomacy, but the West took the opportunity to arm and train Ukraine so they were strong militarily when this proxy war commenced."
The West was played like fools (and behaved like greedy fools) for decades, expediently taking Russian energy, opening up their banks to dirty money, soft on spying, assassinations, malign political influence and lest we forget the 'guarantees' given by the West in exchange for Ukraine giving up it's nuclear weapons.
Could go on...
