People pay themselves in dividends because they pay a much lower rate than if they pay income tax. Its the first thing their accountant tells them to do

Oh yeah, forgot about those directors who pay themselves with dividends, and saving themselves thousands in Tax each year. The pandemic must have been very inconvenient.
My wife also missed out by not having 3 full years of accounts. So there were winners and losers sadly.

Just for balance, I'm selfemployed and recieved 80% of taxable income. The system worked very well for me.
Ive spoken to untold amount of selfemployed who recieved nothing. When I scratched beneath the surface, they were all dodgy; ie they had claimed a loss for the last 3 years( although they seemed to be living very comfortable lifestyles to me) or in many cases believe it or not, they were simply not even filling in a tax return and paying no tax what so ever. So I except some fell through the net, and for them I'm very sorry, but the vast majority of people Ive spoken to who recieved nothing were as dodgy as sin.

What happens to the dividend the company gets from the Russian operation, if like they said in the RNS, we don't recognise it as income anymore?

Don't forget, the West are also holding billions of dollars of assets from the Russians , that they are not going to be getting back any time soon.
I wonder if BP and all don't get future access to their asset if the spoils from the Russian grab would be used tob compensate us?

I sold some at 29. Think of it as an insurance policy. Just in case the sp does not do what we expect. (now when has that happened in the Last 8 years ?)

I mean Alpala hole 5, hole 12 type of results. The ones that make headlines and say, you know what , this could be big!

When the company does not release drill results, it's because there are not any good ones. Covid is a convenient excuse.
We have great assets but the majority of the tenements will not produce much. Its the nature of exploration and the reason why Alpala is valued so highly.

If I could quickly answer some of your questions
I don't get excited if the SP drops from 26p to 25.5p because I usually get 5%, because my trades usually play out over a week or 2.
I don't get too stressed if the SP goes to 27p either because 100% of the time it always retreats ( if you wait) I. Actually very happy because I still have around 90% long.
If the big boom finally comes great because again I'm always well covered. The secret is not to be too greedy.
This might give newbies a different perspective. I would have been interested to hear what others did back in the day.

I don't want to argue with you. But again I think you completely miss the point. What I'm trying to get across is; if you accept that you can't always get in at the bottom or out at the top. You can actually make some money with a plan.
Ps I have many other shares but I thought the point of talking about solg on the solg board was relevent( silly me).
Anyway, please filter me; my posts are for reasonable people who want to swap ideas about their investment in solg

I've said it before, but the way to beat the blues is to trade a portion of your holding instead of selling up.
Lots of LTH's have this holy than thou attitude about being an invester and not a trader. I say be both.
It takes the frustration out of holding over the long term, and actually can get you excited about a drop in SP too.
You have to admit, solg would have been a traders dream over the last 5 years.
Successful investing is not about being a bull or a bear, its about being either or at the right time of the cycle.

Could be because gold has started to rally in recent days. Also high profile investers starting to talk gold up .
Rk always felt solg tracked the gold price to a certain extend.

I've heard so many money men,give interviews recently.
Every single one of them, criticises the Fed and all central banks, who printed money, to keep economies going.
Not one Considers, what would have happen during the lockdowns, without it and other simulas packages like the cheques given out in the USA and the furlong schemes and selfemployed support in the UK.

I enjoy reading this board, it has been much needed escapism over the last 2 years especially.
Unfortunately I seem to get drawn into arguments to often, which I don't like, so I will continue to read but not post to much in the future. Anyway no hard feelings to you all and good luck. Our time will come!
