There's multiple positive newsflow that could drop at anytime, but the big one is obviously Prof Chalmers interim analysis on the efficacy data on SFX-01 Covid/Ards patient trial, expected Q2...positive data will be a game changer and will no doubt see the sp multi-bag, but finding effective treatments for Covid/Ards has been extremely difficult with very few that have been approved and a long list of promising drugs that have failed to meet their clinical end points, and so I'm sure there must be many investors who are nervous about investing here at the moment just incase news from Prof Chalmers isn't good.

This would obviously impact the sp dramatically, but only temporarily , c£13m cash in the bank and a raft of other potential positive news expected near term from the rest of the pipeline would see the sp recover quickly imho....and of course if Prof Chalmers delivers good news, then those invested now will reap the rewards.

SFX-01 for Covid/Ards isn't a shot in the dark and there's endless documented research that suggests Sulforaphane's influence on Nrf2 / oxidative stress etc associated with respiratory inflammation disorders , could be of therapeutic benefit, and so the risk reward going forward is firmly in our favour regardless....no doubt the same prospects and potential that were compelling to Octopus, Chelverton and Rab and why they have invested heavily at this most exciting time of Evgen's development....fortune favours the brave and those that have done their research and due diligence...Everything firmly crossed for success....Undoubted Transformational Upside on multiple fronts. Appointment of Chief Business Officer



Evgen (AIM: EVG), a clinical stage drug development company focused on the treatment of cancer, inflammation and acute respiratory distress syndrome, announces that Helen Kuhlman PhD will be joining the Company as Chief Business Officer effective from 1 April 2021.



Dr Kuhlman has over 20 years' experience in government funding and equity investment together with scientific and business roles in public and private R&D-based biotechnology companies. She joins Evgen from the Development Bank of Wales where she was responsible for equity investment in technology companies and for managing investments in the bank's portfolio companies. Prior to that Helen was Vice-President of Corporate Development at Chronos Therapeutics Ltd and was previously at Innovate UK where she created and delivered the £180m Biomedical Catalyst competitive grant scheme funded by the UK government. Dr Kuhlman holds a PhD in physiology and pharmacology from the University of Leicester, UK.



Dr Huw Jones CEO of Evgen commented: "We are delighted to appoint Helen to a key senior role within the Company as we increase our focus on potential partnering activities for SFX-01. That was his 8p entitlement commensurate to his modest shareholding, Huw bought £5k's worth on top of his 2.9m share options which he will be able to exercise on sp performance, Sue Foden bought £10k's worth,. The UK's most powerful VC fund , Octopus, bought £1.75m , Chelverton bought £1m , RAB bought £700k and AXA and Seneca bought £1m plus and £750k plus....and the two or three plonked here who spend their time trying to undermine Evgen's prospects and potential don't hold any shares in Evgen...ha ha ha ha....sad pathetic, bitter and twisted...ho ho ho ho....they're not going to be happy when this starts to move....Gla holders....not many other Bio's with so much cash with so much potential at so little value. ...On and UP!!! :-)

Lol, you dipstick, of course they're going to raise cash at this stage , incase the Covid/Ards trial isn't successful, and no one will know either way until Prof Chalmers analyses the interim data as planned, with results expected Q2, ie as early as next month. Drug development is high risk high reward, and so very prudent of Evgen to raise cash now to enable them to accelerate their multiple pipeline regardless of the outcome of the Star-Covid trial....multiple shots on multiple targets and a shed load of cash in the bank, and of course if Prof Chalmers reports positive data and confirms SFX-01 as a therapeutic benefit for Covid/ Ards, then the sp will multi-bag...and will propel Evgen on to the World's stage , in the spotlight and full investor focus....incredibly exciting times for those invested....Gl:-)

Our philosophy is to become long-term co-owners in businesses that are very progressive and will become increasingly relevant in the world. We won't do what some other micro-cap funds might do, which is sell when companies get to a certain market cap. We'll continue to hold them until we think that they have reached a point where all of the upside is in the share price.

Can you identify a couple of key investment opportunities for your fund you are playing at the moment in the portfolio? This could be at a stock, sector or thematic level.

We've got a core portfolio of companies that are profitable and on a recognisable growth trajectory. Our expectation is that these companies can double their profits in a three to five-year time horizon. Many of our holdings have been in the portfolio for ten years and have grown significantly since the original investment. For example, ID verification software provider GB Group has grown its profits from £1mn to over £40mn since the fund invested in 2010. As a result, the market cap of the company has grown from £20mn to £1.8bn over that period. Similarly RWS Holdings, a patent translation business with a market cap of £60mn at the point of investment, is today valued at £2.3bn. Other examples include Future which has grown its market value from £66mn to £1.8bn and Keywords Studios which has grown from £90mn to £2.0bn over the period the fund has been invested.

Can you give a brief overview of your strategy in terms of what you are trying to achieve for investors, your investment process and the make-up of the investment team?

The lead manager of the fund is Richard Power, who has been running the fund since its launch in 2007. Richard is directly assisted by Chris McVey and Dominic Weller in addition to the wider Quoted Companies Team at Octopus which consists of 8 investment professionals.  The team manage a range of mandates focused on quoted smaller companies, including two AIM Venture Capital Trusts which ensures a good focus on, and understanding of, the smallest quoted companies. Collectively, the team manage £2.2bn.

How have you been trying to weather the storm caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and what could be the longer-term implications for your strategy?

Equity markets get increasingly inefficient during periods of volatility which presents investors with opportunities. That was certainly the case in 2020, and small companies respond well during periods of accelerated change. We therefore remain excited about the prospects for our funds and the asset class over the next few years.

Just seen the 590k trade On target, and once again priced as a buy.....i'm sure th MM's are happy to mop up all those that are prepared to sell their shares under 8p, whilst the Smart Money continues to accumulate.....sooner or later this is going to re-rate, especially on the back of a nice update from Huw. Gl ;-)

150k trade hust in priced at 7.815p, which certainly looks like a buy compared to the two previous trades priced at 7.7p....the Smart Money is mopping UP....imho....Gla ;-)
