I'm astonished at the naivety of some people regarding Brexit, tariffs and the consequences facing the country which are the biggest since the second world war.
You say look at the other side of things. Really, what other side?, oh perhaps you mean we'll be able to trade with the rest of the world and have trade deals!. Well actually we already have loads of them through the EU which will come to an end to be replaced with what?. It takes years to to do these deals and do you think we can better what the EU has done?. The EU hasn't held us back with trade, after all countries like Germany thrive abroad, we don't do well because we've got nothing others want to buy and coming out of the EU doesn't change that.
As for hype, look at the high street and can you tell me the name of any department store that hasn't gone bust, teetering on the edge or is simply breaking even?. Yes business rates, wages and austerity aren't helping but actually all of these stores and others whist never terribly robust apart from John Lewis all ran into problems post Brexit and the sharp devaluation of the pound making import much more expensive. So if you can't pass these costs on it comes out of margin hence why they can't make a profit including John Lewis now.
Now imagine tarrifs on top of all that. unless we get a free trade agreement with the EU there WILL be tariffs of some kind and that's a fact and not hype
