OMI and Financial advisors23 Oct 2020 13:31
Hi OMI Team
One thing has been bothering me since I entered this share market just 6 to 7 months ago . Like you i was extremely busy at work and had let financial advisors deal with my PF for last 15 years . Guess what - average return was good initially by 8 to 10 percent but afterwards went downhill over last 6 to 7 years , year by year. i also noticed that they all were interested in particular funds which they invested our money in , and let it go ( passive investing) . Changed advisors 3 times in this journey none of them actively managing the PF apart from so called quarterly balancing. I also had split portfolio between 2 advisors and still no luck.
6 months ago - something changed - Without any experience in stock market, I asked them to transfer one tenth of my pf for myself to handle ( you guessed it right - had jerky response from them and my wife Lol - see you are taking high risk was the moaning line ??)
La behol- now my small portfolio is up 80 percent and some of the advisors are asking me as to which shares to research?? can you believe it??
Yes- i have lost money one third what i invested initially in this journey but with valuable research from excellent reliable posts here and a bit of luck things changed towards better side.
Sorry the reason for rant is
- I cant stress enough , the importance of getting into shares like GGP and OMI early enough
- would be nice to know as to how many of you are handling majority of your own portfolio ie ISA, Sipps, finds etc
- Is it worth taking most or atleast two thirds of PF under own control given my experience or i am being optimistic ??
cheers
MK
