Monte Muambe - World class deposit31 May 2026 19:15
Altona Rare Earths holds a maiden JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of 13.6 million tonnes at 2.42% TREO (Total Rare Earth Oxides) at its Monte Muambe project in northwest Mozambique. Of this total, 58% falls within the higher-confidence Indicated category, and the project has been enriched with heavy rare earth elements (HREE).
Flagship Resource: Monte Muambe (Mozambique)The rare earths resource estimate is detailed as follows:
Total Resource: 13.6 million tonnesGrade:
2.42% TREO
Resource Breakdown: 58% of the resource is classified in the Indicated category, while 42% is in the Inferred category.
Project Status: The rare earths project is currently in the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) stage, backed by a U.S. USTDA development grant. Altona was also granted a 25-year mining licence for the site.
Heavy Rare Earths: Recent exploration and metallurgical drilling at the site has successfully identified valuable heavy rare earth element enrichment (including terbium and dysprosium).
Multi-Commodity Potential at Monte Muambe
Alongside rare earths, Altona has significantly expanded its operations to extract other critical minerals at the same site:
Fluorspar:
A JORC MRE of 3.48 million tonnes at 20.6% CaF2 (for 716,000 tonnes of contained CaF2), targeting an initial 9.5-year mine life producing 50,000 tonnes per annum of acid-grade concentrate.
Gallium: An initial inferred gallium resource of 11.73 million tonnes grading 54.7 g/t Ga2O3
