Unki plans to expand operations in Zimbabwe and open a new $400m mine, amid speculation that it is in talks about a joint venture with Mimosa mine, owned by Aquarius Platinum and Impala Platinum. http://www.bdlive.co.za/business/mining/2013/02/07/production-rises-at-amplats-mine-in-zimbabwe

LONDON (SHARECAST) - South African miner Aquarius Platinum unleashes its latest financial results Friday after reporting an improvement in output during the final quarter of 2012. The company saw attributable production rise 2.0% quarter-on-quarter for last three months of December, according to results published last month. At the time the FTSE 250 firm said it was a challenging quarter during which industrial relations in South Africa remained strained and metal prices remained low. The group also highlights that it remained acutely aware that despite the improvements in production, it continued to consume cash during the quarter. The price improvements and the weakened exchange rate in January were expected to substantially reduce cash consumption and enable the to company to start producing cash at mine level. Platinum spot prices rose 0.06% to $1,737.85 per troy ounce at 15:46 Thursday, according to data on Bloomberg. The company has been under pressure as it mothballed two of its mines in 2012 and saw its increasingly exasperated Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Stuart Murray, resign in October. Platinum gained for a fifth day Thursday on increased concern that supplies will decline from South Africa, which produces of about 73% global output. http://www.sharecast.com/cgi-bin/sharecast/story.cgi?story_id=20677400
Good Luck whatever you decide .
AQP acted fast and with not too much backlash look now if they tried to do it pressure from the goverment being put on AAL re their closures its crazy though look at AAL losses reported the other day and the Govt in SA expects these Companies to just keep going and employing people and losing money . Anyway we need an upbeat Platinum price as the mines we have are profitable at the lower rates so the higher the POP the more money being made and all fingers crossed the one off costs incurred are out the way
yes why ? Of course it has many negatives hence the share price going from £2 at the start of 2012 down to 34p low . But this is about a recovery play and whats happening going forward most of 2012 was spent running unprofitable mines that in the end were put on care and maintenance . Its about going forward not looking back IMO
Longer Term resistance has been at $1735 the previous high so really need it to be staying above that level into the weekend for platinum to look even more bullish
Platinum mining has been a pretty bleak place to operate for the past year. And just think about those miners. Their pay and conditions were so bad they risked their lives to strike and protest last year. The civil unrest led to 34 deaths at platinum miner Lonmin's Marikana mine. However, Aquarius Platinum seems to be turning a corner. It is putting last year behind it and catching up with lost production. On Friday it will reveal its interim results and analysts think an upgrade in the company's forecasts will be required now it has reported four quarters of consistent improvement. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/analysis-and-features/the-week-ahead-punters-betting-on-a-strong-888-update-8479167.html
It will be 7am tomorrow GMT and all indices will have reults at the same time . Im hoping to see some more positive forward looking statements . The only fly in the ointment may be how much cash is left but as the markets are forward thinking and AQP next quarter should become cash positive id be hoping for a positive reaction we will see
Well it broke $1706 nicely and is now sitting @ bang on the longer term resistance of £1735 up nearly $28 or 1.62% also now $60 or so more than gold . Does bode well for the future profitanilty of the mines in operation now lets see if it can break above $1735 or bounce back down and whether $1706 will now be support.
well platinum looks to have broken its short term resistance of $1706 currently sitting around $1715 all good for this quarters production will be interesting to see if platinum can break out properly i think with next resistance around $1735 the previous high
