RE: Predictions7 Mar 2019 23:54
Ha! It would make me laugh a bit if that was true, the thought of someone going to such great lengths just thinking “oh **** how am I going to get this share price back down... how many can I convince on the message boards to drop it all and run...” I do love how in the world of investing shorting shares is like the dark arts, and I’ll admit I was almost tempted into it at one stage.
But I can understand why it’s frowned upon, too, with the investor essentially hoping for destruction, the more the merrier. But on the other side of things, all of us on here (I hope, for the sake of market integrity...) are merely spectators. We can ease ourselves with the thought that by investing not shorting we are contributing to growth, and looking for positive and optimistic outcomes. I certainly do and I very much am here with RMP. But, at the end of the day as being the spectators and investors we are it is all merely betting on whether we think something will be a profitable outcome for us. There are many reasons why an experienced investor may short shares, The China Hustle comes to mind - a guy researched listed US companies that appeared to be fraudulent Chinese fronts and would put in a short position then expose them. Right now it’s likely no one in the world knows exactly what is under there in Alaska - with fine precision anyway - so I don’t begrudge someone for taking whatever stance they feel may reflect the outcome, but that said please stop just throwing insults at each other it’s making it very difficult to catch up on the actually relevant or insightful elements of this board.
