Had emailed them the day before I saw this post, to my surprise actually heard back! Got the below response…
We are in the hands of the London exchange at the moment, we anticipate it will be in the next week or two.
We will make the appropriate announcements once more information is available.
Ha! It would make me laugh a bit if that was true, the thought of someone going to such great lengths just thinking “oh **** how am I going to get this share price back down... how many can I convince on the message boards to drop it all and run...” I do love how in the world of investing shorting shares is like the dark arts, and I’ll admit I was almost tempted into it at one stage.
But I can understand why it’s frowned upon, too, with the investor essentially hoping for destruction, the more the merrier. But on the other side of things, all of us on here (I hope, for the sake of market integrity...) are merely spectators. We can ease ourselves with the thought that by investing not shorting we are contributing to growth, and looking for positive and optimistic outcomes. I certainly do and I very much am here with RMP. But, at the end of the day as being the spectators and investors we are it is all merely betting on whether we think something will be a profitable outcome for us. There are many reasons why an experienced investor may short shares, The China Hustle comes to mind - a guy researched listed US companies that appeared to be fraudulent Chinese fronts and would put in a short position then expose them. Right now it’s likely no one in the world knows exactly what is under there in Alaska - with fine precision anyway - so I don’t begrudge someone for taking whatever stance they feel may reflect the outcome, but that said please stop just throwing insults at each other it’s making it very difficult to catch up on the actually relevant or insightful elements of this board.
The drill is turning... Check out this presentation by Otto, page 29 has the schedule. Drill started 2:30PM GMT today

Thinking about how they've released the news so far, the next bidder may be waiting for Valentine's weekend to be over (expensive for many people, and payday for many people in ten days or so from now) with the thought that it will more easily make the next offer (perhaps on Monday...) a knockout blow. Would be interested to find out more about the people who plan and engineer bidding strategies for companies.
What was that about company staff getting zero? ;)
"Issue of 10 million shares from Earthport plc to the trustee of the Earthport plc Employee Share Ownership Plan Trust No. 2 to satisfy the future exercise of share options awarded to employees of Earthport plc"
That's interesting, thanks for sharing Johnny. Up to 39 today! Absolutely bonkers. Maybe someone somewhere knows something...
@Johnnydurex , curious to know where you heard the rumour about WorldPay? Would've thought by now they would have come out with something if they were coming in, perhaps MasterCard curtailed their plans.
@GRAHAMBARNES It's not quite like that... Chances are there are enough shares in total in circulation to fulfill their order, but the way it works nowadays is these automated systems ping brokers who then either accept and offer a quote or effectively swipe left on a deal. If they don't have the shares or enough sellers to fulfill the order then they clearly won't be able to accept it, BUT chances are if they went to buy it in two smaller chunks rather than one big bulk then they may go through, as it could be completed by multiple brokers.
Hmm, waiting for the counter offer is absolutely killing me though! I must be checking for news about 50 times a day
To clarify for Andre01, it's 400mmbls total, 126mmbls net to Red Emperor - but like happyhols says it's in about every RNS since mid last year.
Seems the market is very confident of a competing bid....
So yesterday evening someone commented on here from someone saying the bid was to be rejected, visa was going to pull out etc etc.... I’ll be honest I checked first thing this morning with a thought of selling having seen it! Certainly glad I didn’t now... The comment clearly has been deleted so either the person realised how woefully wrong they were or were trying to engineer a few sells!
It doesn’t surprise me that MasterCard are in now though, I had been wondering if they would wait until their lawsuit was settled (funnily enough for FX issues, which buying Earthport may solve in a sense) before they bid and lo and behold they did indeed.
Looking at today's trades, price going in the right direction but who on earth buys £2.66 worth of shares??
Hmm. Went back down as soon as I clicked post on my comment!
I was really just surprised there had been no movement whatsoever, not that there was little movement happening in general, plenty of market forces going against RMP but the company has enough to keep those forces at bay so long as they stick to their deadlines and we continue to see progression. Best thing for me is if oil goes up I can invest more in my transport-based shares and see this rise nicely, which is exactly what I'm looking for now!
Haa, very funny catsize! It seems to be moving in the right direction now...
@getbusy Apologies, I thought you meant it hadn’t got the votes necessary, thought it was a bit quick for that yet!
@getbusy Where do you see this? Not seen anywhere that it’s not been approved...
No movement today, isn't that a bit weird..?
Only just seen the RNS from the end of November. Looks like they're doing well, surprised the price is meandering so much... Anyone got any news?
Kind of exciting company but not much talk on here! Where is everyone?
