Teardown Evidence & Internal Specs
Recent "pre-release" teardowns and FCC filings for the WF-1000XM6 (Model YY2985) provide a clearer picture of how the Monash/Ionic/CAP-XX tech is being used:
Hybrid Energy System: The earbuds still use a primary 3.85V Lithium-Ion battery (Z55H-type coin cell). However, a small, ultra-thin CAP-XX prismatic supercapacitor is suspected to be located on the secondary PCB (printed circuit board).
The "Burst" Role: In the XM6, this supercapacitor handles the high-current demands of the QN3 Noise Cancelling Processor and the new DSEE Ultimate AI engine. By taking these "hits," the main battery doesn't experience "voltage sag," which significantly extends the overall battery health over several years.
Ultra-Fast Charging: Retailer leaks from Encompass Parts (December 2025) suggest the XM6 will feature a revamped charging circuit. The supercapacitor likely enables a "hyper-charge" mode where just 60 seconds in the case provides enough power for an hour of playback.
