German Economy Minister Robert Habeck announced Sunday that the country will adopt new emergency measures that will include firing up its coal-fired power plants. The move will be made in order to compensate for Russian gas, which Europe's largest economy is heavily reliant on.
"To reduce gas consumption, less gas must be used to generate electricity. Coal-fired power plants will have to be used more instead," said Habeck. "Otherwise, it will be really tight in winter," he added.
