Venezuala was the wealthiest country in south America thanks to western oil Company's huge investments in their vast reserves of oil (largest in the World). Until the Chávez government kicked them out and took over and tried to run them. The net result of a loss of expertise, international sanctions, failure to reinvest in the oil industry, and falling oil prices in 2015 resulted in the steep decline seen in the graphic above.

National park) has to accept a low ball offer of 5.5p from mining giant AAL. That's entirely different to Shanta who have little debt.

Strangely enough their are rumours that AAL are considering selling off all/part of this mine
