French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement on Friday evening, including Paris' pledge to send €3 billion worth of military aid to Kiev this year.
As part of the agreement, France will provide Ukraine with military equipment, and promote cooperation of the two countries' defense industries, training, and intelligence. "We are determined to put a stop to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine," Macron stressed. The French president however reiterated that Paris is "not at war with Russia or the Russian people" and called for "a change in Russia" which requires "a collective start."
France is estimated to have provided €1.7 billion in support to Ukraine in 2022 and €2.1 billion in 2023.
