BP does appear to be more settled just now, despite all the major world news items over the past 4 months.

If only we could start with more good news to build from here.

Maybe next month the debt will have showed a bit of improvement.

When we finally turn back upwards properly,valuations will become more realistic,even if it only starts with a £4 for now.

RNS regarding shares save scheme.

Appears to suggest there has been a poor take up shares awarded.so far.

This would likely make sense due to low sp compared to award price.

This means I think that shares bought by Hbr to award may end up with a large number not used .

These may be cancelled at some time in furure at no extra cost to company.

And should be a positive.

Don’t know when the vesting period finishes.

But it is a finite period.

Your dividend reinvestment strategy probably works well at these sp levels.

Although some will tell you ,you need to live to about 110 to see the fruits of your investment.

We even come out badly against the big European oilers.

BP certainly took the eye off the ball and charged into too much.

However the one thing they have is potential.

They are so far down currently.

There are only 3 options

1) go under,that’s not happening unless another major disaster

2) get taken over in some way.

3) improve.

Things never stay the same

They are not a totally bad company,just very poorly lead.

Fix the leaders ,start to fix the problems,fix the share price.

All would lead to happy investors

If the retail network in Austria,and the Netherlands are sold( as planned) that will hit the staff numbers .

Staff numbers have recently increased due to taking on the other half of BP Bunge and Lightsource BP.

I’m not saying it’s all okay,just within the story there is actually a lot going on.

BP Bunge employs 9,000 people in Brazil.

Don’t think any other oil major has a similar operation.

I do always have doubts when it’s accounting that runs a head count reduction.

Been there when you get told you are fully staffed ,but management not taking account of the fact that they are not fully trained.

Eg staff of 4 ,but 3 of them can do the same quarter of the job, and only 1 can do it all.

Then he wants his annual leave.

It’s happening.

Agreed everything needs justification.

I suspect it’s almost impossible currently to recruit as normal.

Some of the extra numbers are convenience which with shifts is a high staffing environment.

But obviously these apply to some extent to the other majors.

I’m assuming a lot of it is shares registered for clients who currently don’t want their name on the register,or nominee accounts,but personally have no idea.

Jakers BP are very active in reducing numbers.

But it’s mainly contractors they are targeting.

They have some sort of system that tells who is not needed.

(I think it’s a spy camera at the coffee machine).

But it has identified many hundreds to go.

It’s interesting how many articles are appearing every day still saying Shell are in for BP.

You couldn’t have a more obvious denial.

I have said for ages that Shell probably only will want BP if someone else bids.

Otherwise time is on their side.

A Hedge fund with the help of a couple Middle East companies,and maybe a U.S. major already lined up to take parts of the business.

Then they float off the convenience as one company.

The renewables as one or two others.

There definitely would be interest,if each set of buyers could cherry pick

Just read an article which lists BP debt as high and gearing of 46%.

My understanding is that % gearing is debt as % of market cap ( may be more subtle than that).

So the sp has been lowered because the debt is high making the gearing worse.

If some debt is payed the sp should rise which would drop the gearing because of debt reduction and sp rise ,so a double effect.

Is this right or have I got it totally wrong.
